Ok so there is a gracie gym in my area and I was thinking on joining it since im intrested in mma(by the way im new to mma) and I went with my mom to the place and checked it out anyway to make a long story short the guy cesar gracie signed me up for jj and took me to look at the gi and I was woundering how it works so is it like you do jj one month and then you do boxing another then muiy tai because what I mainly want to do is mma and compeate in tournaments.

each school is different. You should ask the school not a bunch of internet people who probably have never been to cesar's.

it would help if u told us what school you joined. Some gracie academy's only offer Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and no muay thai or boxing.

Although I agree that he should ask the school, there's nothing wrong with asking a bunch of internet people for information. What's the point of this forum then?

He said cesar gracie in his post.

ok well from the looks of there website they dont offer muay thai just boxing and the total cost with BJJ and boxing is around $200+. I would look at another school If I was you. Cesar is an amazing BJJ guy but if you want to do MMA you need to learn other things also and theres other gyms thatll offer good training for cheaper then that.

As for your question about you do 1 thing 1 month, 1 thing the next, here is what my schedule looked like when I was training in both MT and BJJ,

Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10-11AM Muay Thai
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 7-8:30 PM Bjj

So no its not necessarely you do 1 thing at a time, you can do as much as u want you just have to fit your schedule with what your schools' schedule is!

how old are you? considering you 'went with your mom' i'll assume quite young

if thats the case, there is nothing wrong with doing a single sport for a few years to get a good base and then start adding to your repertoire

I second Cool Hand Luke.

If you have no prior background I would not start doing everything at once. You will probably progress faster by learning some Jiu Jitsu, then learning som boxing or MT, then start mixing it up.

Best advice here. Forget trying to learn two things at once, the best thing a young guy could do is dedicate himself to one art/style for the sole purpose of getting very good in it. Then learn another for its own sake. When you are legitimately good standing and grappling, THEN worry about MMA and training for it.

yeah verry true. I didnt process that you were young when I read your thing, but I guess you could be like that Riddle guy and be like 21 and ur mom driving u around!

If your young do BJJ first and wrestling at your school. Then move into boxing, thai boxing etc

In general you are absolutely right, since this thread is all about exchanging info. What I meant was asking "internet people" for info on specifically caesar gracie's school.

I don't see why he can't just take both? I currently do Muay Thai and Grappling (no-gi bjj). While he's young he can pick up both ground game and stand up very quickly. Ask your instructor if there's a boxing/ muay thai/ karate school that he recommends.

Good luck and have fun!

Build your foundation with BJJ and Boxing, then start thinking about Muay Thai/MMA. At my old training faciluty you had to train in BJJ for at least 6 months before they would even let you partake in an MMA session.

cesar gracie puts out top quality MMA fighters. I would definately stay there and explain your goals to cesar. You can't microwave jiu jitsu and expect to be a good mma fighter right away. you are going to have to work hard and dedicate yourself to the cause.

Cesar Gracie has my vote

thx guys and by the way im 15 years old and about to be a sophmore so I quess what I will do is learn bjj untill wrestling season then afterwards learn boxing.
