I have no problem at taking my opponents down but need some help on keeping them down. Do I need to work more on jiu jitsu or wrestling? Thanks.

Well, you need to work more on grappling. It's a very vague question. How are they getting up? Training BJJ, Judo, Wrestling, you should learn how to stay on top of someone.

are you fighting in mma or what? are they getting back to guard and sweeping or just scrambling? DETAILS

Ya im fighting mma, i'm 3-0 amatuer. It was only my last fight I had trouble keeping him down. It was more of him scrambling back to his feet. He didnt sweep me or roll me at all. He was just good at getting back to his feet.

In this case I would say wrestling. Try a spiral ride,or even better lift the far ankle and drive harder and faster than he can stand, and throw a vine into the near leg. Keep the ankle and break him down or otherwise plant him on his hip.

How? What, exactly, was he doing?

Either way, BJJ is your best bet. BJJ teaches the proper positional control better than does wrestling.

lol. bjj is teh rulez.

Wrestling > BJJ for keeping someone down who is hell bent on standing up. You dont get points for an escape on BJJ. No riding time in BJJ. Nobody gives up their back (-4pts) to explode up for an escape (0pts), like you see all the time in wrestling and MMA. BJJ is great at some things. Just not this.

No out of the big 3 wrestling, judo or BJJ.

BJJ its easily the worst because it doesnt focus on the transition between the standup and the ground, those seconds between the takedown and the ground are what matters.

BJJ has guard and guard passing but not much else as of lately, because that's what determines grappling matches under current rules.

Folkstyle is the best when it comes to prevent someone to standup, i would rank judo and freestyle/greco second because you "dont need" to be succesful they train to get the extra edge, in BJJ its illegal to standup and disengage and you can pull guard, no need to train keeping a man down.

i had a very good coach when it came to newaza, we had shitloads of positional drills, like one man stands up the other keeps fight on the ground. One man to escape to the other side of the mat, the other to stop. One man to defend the turtle, the other to turn and pin etc etc.

Its a different skillset.
