Neck exercises

I usually work out my neck 4-5 x a week after jiu jitsu practise. I lay on my back, lift my head from the ground, and turn my chin from shoulder to shoulder until failure. I do the same but going up and and down. How do you rate this for building a strong and thick neck? And can you recommend some other type of neck routine?

Are shrugs important to srtenghtening the neck?

Bridges are great, shrugs are stupid. want traps? Deadlift.
 
I love Bridges. Neck extensions with ones head hanging off the end of a bench with a plate on your forhead.
