Could someone explain how to do these? I checked bjj.org but it doesn't have them listed. I get tapped by them frequently.

Which one? There are a lot of different neck cranks. Its kinda like asking how to do an arm bar. Which one. The basic principle is to try and move the head in a direction it doesn't want to go to cause pain.

1. Ask your instructor
2. If you're tapping to them frequently, pay a little attention or ask your partner to show you what they did.
3. Prepare to be flamed.

I wouldnt suggest doing neck cranks, its not a reliable way to break his guard or to tap some1 out, and im gueesing ur new to bjj you can seriously hurt some1 if u do it wrong

basically when ur in some1s guard, just grab the back of their head and pull it to you, forcing them to tap or break guard, its called the can opener

Thanks for the advice. It seems dangerous to do them. When my partner locked it on me, my neck was cracking and it was very painful.

That's why novices shouldnt do them and IF you do them, do it slowly and carefully.

Another neckcrank from bottom is having over/underhook and then overhooking both his legs and stretching him out.
At the same time clasp your hands together and drive them into his neck...

If you're training someplace where you're frequently getting people going for neck cranks, you may want to consider training elsewhere. Those gyms are usually nothing but trouble.

Hit the gym and work your neck or do neck excersize like nodding, head turning(sorry dont know to discribe it better) etc. . Back in the day i got tapped with can openers now im pretty immune to them.

Neck cranks are dangerous man, I have been hurt by them. I never use them on people, never really have to, cause I practice with guys that are all in their 30's and we have to be to work the next day so we don't try to kill one another. We call this happy-jiu-jitsu. Tourney jj pull his fucking head off if you can. Best used when in someones guard and you can't get out. Reach up with both hands, interlock your fingers at the crown of his head ( they will teach you to grab behind the head but pull from the crown or top) and pull his chin down to his fucking bellybutton and hold. He will more often than not break his guard or give you his credit cards pretty much anything you want.

I do over head close cable grip pulldowns to train for this. I can pull the stack with a 45 lb. plate hanging on the pin for 8 on my last set. If I had too I am pretty sure I can snap someone's neck. But be judicious with these you don't want to kill people.

ditto, the first time iever rolled bjj i got a can opener put on me but a dude who had 40lbs on me and obviously did it cause he could, i spent a week with serious neck pain and couldnt even turn my head to the side, i ahd about another month and a bit of being in rough shape neck wise, so dont be a fucking asshole and dont use a neck crank in practice, just use it in fights when the opponents health doesent matter, i swear if another kid tries one on me hes getting hit in the nuts and i dont give a fuck.

If someone in your guard has a can opener on you, then you can post off their chin, trap an arm, and execute an armbar.

good idea.

anyways i only use one neck crank, and its not applied from the guard.

from full mount, go behind his neck with one arm, like you were going for a sidechoke or something. instead, lock your hands in the basic rnc positon. example go behind his head with your left arm, and lock your left hand on your right biceps, then use your right hand to put pressure on his head. do this REALLY fucking carefully. i always apply it slowly as fuck.

when it's put on you, tap. don't try to hold it. for the first 2 secs you don't feel anything, then your neck cracks with a horrifying sound. after that your neck hurts like a motherfucker and you're hoping you'll still be walking the next day. :)

i usally go for the neck crank when im in my oppenents half gaurd, does anyone know any good strength exercise to strengthen your neck to resist them and any good exercise for strengthing your arms to exacute the neck crank, for exacuting it i think bicep exercises like pull ups or a set of hammer curls would be good as its your bicep your using.

I know and use a ton of cranks, especially on the neck. HOWEVER, I use discretion. I'm always slow about it, and if I need to do it fast to get it, I don't do it. I'm also not going to keep cranking to make a stubborn guy submit. There's no reason in harming a hard headed guy for the sake of teaching him a lesson.
Well, not unless it's a little eye for an eye; I am guilty of roughing up a new kid pretty bad after he busted my mouth while getting overzealous with a guillotine drill. He didn't get it sunk, so he felt it necessary to crank the shit out of my face while I was being a good uke. I rolled with him later and made it the worst fifteen minutes of his life. But you know, he's gotten his ass in line since then.

so does anyone have any tips

Thankfully neck cranks are not allowed at my school, or in most bjj competitions.

You can neck crank from 1,000 different positions. I learned one saturday called the Chirpractor special. My neck is still sore, I think I sprained it, if that is possible and I noticed my shit has turned yellow and runny. i hope to never have it done to me again, as it hurts like no fucking other. I also had the dude show me how to do it after I regained feeling in my feet again. I am going to use this technique sparringling with my training partners but will apply liberally during mma fights and bjj sport matches.

I don't understand all these people talking about how great neck cranks are for sport bjj competitions either. As far as I understand, neck cranks are illegal in almost all bjj competitions (at least until the brown/black belt levels), so I don't know why people think they would be so useful.

They are allowed for sub wrestling much of the time though. Here's a cool one:
