Dirty pool in a House override of Gov Coopers budget veto today.

    https://amp.newsobserver.com/news/politics-government/article234962017.html

Basically, most of the democrats were away at a 9/11 memorial ceremony. Everyone was told that the vote wouldn't happen until later. Republicans decided to show up and vote anyway.

If the democrats are too fucking stupid to realize that this shit happens all the time, then that's their fault.

The IRS and income tax was made law under a similar process. Most of Congress was away due to it being a Holiday.

So basically some politicians didn't show up for work and are now complaining that other people did some work while they were awol?
Here's a thought: Maybe they should do what they are paid to do instead of not working?

Veto is a strange concept to me. I mean technically the governor general or lieutenant governor could veto but it's never used. I know our GG hasn't done one in like 150 years.

It was a 9/11 memorial.... not a golf tournament.

Except that it was verbally established that due to the 9/11 ceremony, the vote would wait. This just imploded any trust within the NC House of Reps

Are you ok with this sort of behavior? Also, to do this on 9/11 when Dens were at commemoration ceremonies is just deplorable.

What was their reasoning for the override?

    Never said I did.

The poster I was responding to asked for other examples of this.

The IRS and income tax being made law over a holiday is likely the highest-profile example of this type of political maneuvering.

Yeah, Democrats should realize they can't attend services honoring 9/11 and trust Republicans to keep their word and abide by minimal standards decency and professional decorum without sneaking back into the courtroom to loot the state's economy like cat burglars. Good lord, it's impossible to underestimate the integrity of Republican voters and supporters.

And "scorched earth politics" is exactly right. This has been the Republican playbook for 25 years now: lie, cheat, steal, and shatter all legislative norms and standards of good faith so that legislative bodies are poisoned for years to come....as long as you get your paycheck from the donor johns.

I have to question the ethics of anyone this blindly loyal to a political party that they would condone these tactics.
Dems or Republican... this is shady.

NC Republicans are the lowest of the low. They do not believe in democracy. They illegally gerrymandered the district maps, they outright committed election fraud, and now they take advantage of a 911 memorial to bypass a veto. Fucking scum!

Lock these sacks of shit up!

It is hilarious that flag-waving, God and Country Republicans rammed home a vote while Dems were at a 9/11 memorial. Imagine the accusations of unpatriotic behavior had the roles been reversed.

Did you support the Oregeon Republucans who left the state to prevent a vote rather than showing up for work?

I know it's sensitive, especially for those who haven't come to terms with it being sanctioned by the government.
But all this 9/11-stuff aside, it's not like I can't see it how you see it. Age-old practices need to be abided, right? And to some extent I agree. If you say something you should own it.
But for me it looks like it was verbally established that tax-paid representatives didn't have to work, and then some did anyway, and people are now outraged not because tax-paid representatives didn't work, but because they did.

I think that any money that goes from my pocket needs to go to someone who works for me.
