Just read that Zion has to stay under 295 lbs or else they start taking away from his 195 Million dollar contract. I can’t recall NFL or NBA or MLB player being required to stay under a certain weight. Not sure why they picking on Zion.

pretty regular in football

The most recent weight clause came in Glen Davis' contract when he was with the Celtics. Davis would be given an extra $500,000 if he were to make an unspecified weight at certain points in the season.

As a rookie for the Lakers, Derrick Caracter's salary nearly doubled if he were to make weight by the start of training camp, bringing his salary up to nearly $500,000 from $275,000.

Pelicans are paying him millions. They have a right to hold him to a standard. And why is this shaming? It's telling him, "You play better under this weight. We want you to stay under it".

So is he a basketball player or a football player? I've never heard of the dude.

He played at Duke for a year and was the #1 pick in the NBA draft, going to the NO Pelicans. He's 6'6" and weighs in around 290. He is an absolute beast of a player and a pretty good guy from all accounts. And not to bust your balls here, but if you have never heard of Zion Williamson then you don't follow basketball at all. That being the case why are you even replying to this thread?

I'm not much of a football guy, but even I know that weight and physical restrictions are common parts of NFL contracts. I'm sure they are in the NBA as well, this is only "news" because most players don't let it become an issue.

Dudes built like big Chungus

I doubt we hear about weight clauses much in nba because most players aren’t overweight. Hope Zion can stay on court, he’s fun to watch and gives the small market pelican chance to be relevant

Can't believe they would use the number on the scale as the standard, especially considering his massive amount of muscle which is denser than fat and therefore causes him to weigh more.. If they are wondered about his fitness or physique they should do it through something like BMI.

It's fair.

Even with discipline his body type is unique. Remember when he came into the league was watching videos where they showed his BMI(i think it was his BMI could be something else) compared to everyone elses and he was several quadrants above the other centers(the fattest players in the league). For this reason I'd have picked RJ Barrett over him(and I'd have been wrong because of Ja but that's not the point) because Zion was giving off Greg Oden vibes from the very beginning.

The Pelicans made this deal because they are desperate. Also unlike other blue chip draft picks Zions health means you wouldn't get back equal value in a trade. Whose going to trade for a player where you know going in there's a serious chance he's going to barely end up playing(unless it's Kawhi because he's that good)?

His BMI will be Watched too.

Williamson has to weigh in at less than 295 pounds for the length of the deal. His body fat percentage will also be monitored because — if he does not meet the stipulations — the money in his contract has grounds to be reduced.

He's built like an All Pro defensive end for sure, but he would never survive the game. Hell he can't even stay on the basketball court.

Zion will be one of the biggest busts in NBA history. Literally, one of the biggest.

Weight clauses happen in the NFL.

The weirdest one is the Cardinals just gave Kyler Murray a contract that states he has to study at least 4 hours a week......you'd think if you gave a guy like $200million you shouldn't have to tell him to study, but Kyler has been on record multiple times saying he doesn't study......probably why he sucks in the 2nd half of the season when coordinators get a 2nd crack at him and study his game film.

I wouldn't have hitc

I wouldn't have hitched my wagon to him to lead a franchise but at this point NO doesn't have a choice. He sells tickets and when healthy he is pretty amazing.
