So ever since it became evidently clear that Nate Diaz had McGregor on the ropes, mentally speaking, right before the matchup when the two men squared off in that now infamous staredown between the two fighters, a lot of people has been asking my take on the mental warfare between these two gentlemen. Now before I get started let me just confess here that as a European, I'm inclined to side with my bloodline here, no questions asked and I do understand the pain all you euro fans are going through right now (Not you Bostonians, you simply are NOT Irish no matter how much you wish to be!) but guys we've got to face the facts here, man. You see, guys, and I've said this before but I'm gonna say it again because at the end of the day a good bigger man ALWAYS beats a good smaller man, and this partly the reason why I'm famously not a fan of neither the small man MMA (Anything below GSP) nor women's MMA. Now that being said, I'm gonna keep this short and sweet focusing mainly on this one factor, the biggest factor of this fight by far, but note that there are a lot of different angles and I'll be exploring them while we wait for UFC 200.

Now, what a lot of you people who've never been in a real street fisticuffs, no weight classes, no rules, is that not only does SIZE matter in terms of physical strength but SIZE generally plays a huge role in terms of the mental side of the fight game as well. This is why in the animal kingdom it is so often the case that its the small dog that keeps on barking at the face of the big dog on the campus. Now why am I bringing this up you ask? I'm glad you asked, bro, because this is EXACTLY what happened with Mr. McGregor during that first staredown with Nate. The thing about Coner is that he's always trying to alpha up on his opponents using SIZE. Why? Because it works. The smaller man generally physically shrinks at the presence of the big man and that's no big deal, guys, just a Darwinian response. Now if you look through the video of the staredown, and if you follow my logic through and through you'll be able to see the exact point in time where Coner shrinks at the presence of the bigger Nate both physically but, guys, more importantly MENTALLY. This was the exact moment in time that I simply knew that Nate will take McGregor to the deep waters and drown him. No excuses brother.

And guys, this is exactly why I do not care too much, I still watch a fight or two every now and then, about the world of the small man MMA or women's MMA. At the end of the day, SIZE does matter when it comes to the fight game. This has been true since the times of Alexander and its going to continue to be true and that's exactly why we have weight classes gentlemen. Peace out guys.

PS. Mark my words, Coner won't be able to overcome the size factor, neither physical nor mental, come UFC 200. Nate takes this hands down. And you guys I know I rarely make predictions. This time I just know.

So stupid.

he gassed after outclassing him for 7 min dood, he will avenge his loss for sure!

Probably the first time anyones ever noticed that being larger is an advantage in a fight. Genius-level stuff here.

Curious how 170 became your cutoff? Because GSP would still lose to werdum. So whats the point in watching GSP....he's small when compared to HW.

a lot of people has been asking my take
Really?
Absolutely, bro. Thanks to the new improved Sherdog forums, I'm well aware when someone tags my name with a request. Thanks Sherdog tech geeks, I know I've got my beef with your Bernie Sanders supporting mods but this one's a God's gift to prolific Sherdoggers like yours truly.

That's a lot of words!.....don't think it's as simple as that

Absolutely valid question, bro. Now, I come from Eastern Europe and we're large burly people so even my smallest cousin is about the size of GSP and having a wrestling background like most of us do, would probably beat most of the small men in most MMA organization just purely based on grappling and size. So when I watch high level MMA, I'd like to think that my smaller cousin wouldn't be able to handle his own against the champ. Thus I focus on mainly GSP and up, my man.

Your schtick is both unique and consistent, I'll give you that.

Conor is roughly the same size as gsp in regards to height and reach.

If however you regard size as weight conor was nate size.

Royce Gracie and the first 10 or so UFCs proved that a good small man could beat a good big man. Gracie beat Severn. Shamrock beat Severn despite giving up 45 pounds (215--260)! Then in a hotly contested decision, Severn beat Shamrock in a rematch. There are many, many cases of 230 pounders beating 260 pounders! The only truly great big man has been Brock Lesnar. He's the only huy who had to cut to get to 265 who became champion with 2 consecutive successful defenses. You might add Tim Sylvia but I wouldn't. Couture beat him giving up 50 pounds! Then in his very next fight Couture lost in th 2nd round to Lesnar by TKO.

Did BJ beating Hughes make you question reality?

Absolutely not true. If you've ever been in a real street fisticuffs altercation you'll know that SIZE is much more than just height, reach, or weight, my man. You see there's a reason why Coner wants to make him look bigger when it comes to face offs with his peers, in his own weightless. And he achieves this. This is for a very specific reason, and it is the exact same reason why you see it in the animal kingdom. And this is why the bigger man ALWAYS has the mental edge. ALWAYS. Make no mistake about it, bro.

Valid point, but apparently some guys just don't know that their opponent is supposed to have a mental edge.

i think u have down syndrome. For starters being european doesnt make u irish, however, a large portion of people in boston are of irish decent so theres your first mistake. Two, Mcgregor laid a beating on nate diaz even though he lost. If mcgregor can go back to the drawing boards and reconfigure his approach i definitely see him taking nate diaz. three being bigger doesnt mkean you are going to win even if u r skilled and mma and the ufc has shown that sooooo many times that u must have down syndrome. As for the mental game, its all a load of shit. People who are on the biggest stage with huge victories dont break mentally. They are confident in their approach and they know that failure is a possibility, however, it doesnt hang over your head that you arent good enough to win. I believe 90% or more of the time the mental game plays 0 affect on fighters ability to perform. No fighter has ever talked about feeling mentally weak when facing another guy and it quite simply makes no sense. U have to be a proven fighter to get to the ufc and u wont be questioning yourself at this point in the game

Absolutely. There are anomalies. BJ being one. Eastern Euros are also KNOWN to be tough as nails and while we are usually big enough in terms reaching that GSP limit of a at LEAST a medium sized dog, we also have that extra mental toughness and stoicism.

ive only gotten into fights with people bigger then me and ive never had a mental instability doing so. Size was never the determining factor of the outcome as well
