So ever since it became evidently clear that Nate Diaz had McGregor on the ropes, mentally speaking, right before the matchup when the two men squared off in that now infamous staredown between the two fighters, a lot of people has been asking my take on the mental warfare between these two gentlemen. Now before I get started let me just confess here that as a European, I'm inclined to side with my bloodline here, no questions asked and I do understand the pain all you euro fans are going through right now (Not you Bostonians, you simply are NOT Irish no matter how much you wish to be!) but guys we've got to face the facts here, man. You see, guys, and I've said this before but I'm gonna say it again because at the end of the day a good bigger man ALWAYS beats a good smaller man, and this partly the reason why I'm famously not a fan of neither the small man MMA (Anything below GSP) nor women's MMA. Now that being said, I'm gonna keep this short and sweet focusing mainly on this one factor, the biggest factor of this fight by far, but note that there are a lot of different angles and I'll be exploring them while we wait for UFC 200.
Now, what a lot of you people who've never been in a real street fisticuffs, no weight classes, no rules, is that not only does SIZE matter in terms of physical strength but SIZE generally plays a huge role in terms of the mental side of the fight game as well. This is why in the animal kingdom it is so often the case that its the small dog that keeps on barking at the face of the big dog on the campus. Now why am I bringing this up you ask? I'm glad you asked, bro, because this is EXACTLY what happened with Mr. McGregor during that first staredown with Nate. The thing about Coner is that he's always trying to alpha up on his opponents using SIZE. Why? Because it works. The smaller man generally physically shrinks at the presence of the big man and that's no big deal, guys, just a Darwinian response. Now if you look through the video of the staredown, and if you follow my logic through and through you'll be able to see the exact point in time where Coner shrinks at the presence of the bigger Nate both physically but, guys, more importantly MENTALLY. This was the exact moment in time that I simply knew that Nate will take McGregor to the deep waters and drown him. No excuses brother.
And guys, this is exactly why I do not care too much, I still watch a fight or two every now and then, about the world of the small man MMA or women's MMA. At the end of the day, SIZE does matter when it comes to the fight game. This has been true since the times of Alexander and its going to continue to be true and that's exactly why we have weight classes gentlemen. Peace out guys.
PS. Mark my words, Coner won't be able to overcome the size factor, neither physical nor mental, come UFC 200. Nate takes this hands down. And you guys I know I rarely make predictions. This time I just know.
