If you are a Nas fan, you gotta get this. It has to be his best album other than Ill matic. Real old school. 9/10. The beats are incredible. Any other opinions?

Favorite song is @ 4:15, with Large Professor.

I've been talking about this CD for a while, absolutely amazing. Nas just stopped "trying/ acting" and put out stuff he likes - you can tell on this album.

Solid album.

Nas is notoriously known for releasing weak albums. Luckily, this album does not fall in that category. You can tell he was inspired by the whole Kelis breakup when making this album and it shows. I personally enjoyed it but I wouldn't necessarily say it's his best since Illmatic, that's a bit of a stretch. Though it is clearly among the better half of his releases.

Top 5:

Loco-Motive
You Wouldn't Understand
Cherry Wine (w/ Amy Winehouse)
The Black Bond
Bye Baby

Started off loving Loco-motive, now I have drifted to Back When. Great track

Oh my Christ you are so right. I thought it was just me. His beat selection is horrible. Street Disciple is when I stopped coping his albums. That doubls CD album was god awful. I aint even listen to his other albums after Street Disciple.

But damn this one is dope. He needs to stay with Large Professor, like Cormega is doing for his next album. Either LP or Priemier.

Nas imo is a Homerun or strikeout type of artists... I want him to do good but sometimes he releases some weak albums... Illmatic and Stillmatic are my two favorites... Gotta check this one out for sure.

That's true, he does tend to choose some wack beats. I'm sure he has access, the connections and money to get top notch beats, but chooses to shop at the $0.99 store for beats.

Street's Disciple really annoys me though. Not because it largely sucked, not because it was double album with double fail, but because if he narrowed the track listing in half, he might have had another classic. But no, decided to make a double album with fillers where you have to search for anything good.

Jay-Z said it best in Takeover

"You said you been in this ten
I've been in it five - smarten up Nas
Four albums in ten years *****? I could divide
That's one every, let's say two, two of them shits was due
One was - NAHHH, the other was "Illmatic"
That's a one hot album every ten year average
And that's so - LAAAAAAAME!"

What's your choice for number 2?

It was Written. Maybe Stillmatic, but I haven't heard that album in years.

I'm a huge Nas fan and this album is his best album in years.
The only tracks that I'm skipping sometimes are Summer on smash (mixed feeling about it) and Bye Baby

the track with Amy Winehouse is perfect imo

Nas hasn't done anything great since Stillmatic, he'll always be my favorite rapper though.

I also think "Cherry Wine" is the best track on this album.

Big Nas fan, rate this album pretty poorly. A few good songs among the bullshit though. Very surprised you consider it his best other than Illmatic. It's really not that great an album. Like...6.5/10 for me.

I think Life is Good has received more praise than it deserves.

#1 Illmatic
Quote:
"Wisdom be leakin' out my grapefruit troop
I dominate break loops, givin' mics menstrual cycles
Street's disciple/ I rock beats that's mega trifle
And groovy but smoother than moves by Villanova
You still a soldier/ Im like Sly Stone in Cobra"

#2a Stillmatic
Quote:
"This is my ending and my new beginning nostalgia
Alpha and Omega places, it's like a glitch in The Matrix
I seen it all, did it all, most of y'all will pop for a minute
Spit a sentence then the game'll get rid of y'all
Y'all got there but y'all didn't get it all
I want my style back
Hate to cease y'all plan it's the rap repo man"

#2b It Was Written
Quote:
"I peeped you frontin', I was in the Jeep
Sunk in the seat, tinted with heat, beats bumpin'
Across the street, you was wildin'
Talkin' 'bout how you ran the Island in '89
Layin' up, playin' the yard with crazy shine
I ****ed the baby 9, that ni___ grave be mine"

#4 N Word/ Untitled
Quote:
"I just burnt my ______ flag
And sent 3 cr____ Nazis to hell and I’m sad
Ugh), I’m loadin’ teffs in my mag
To send these _______ biggots some death in a bag
Choke him out with his confederate flag
I know these devils are mad
Little rap fans that live way out in safe suburbia
Would you stand with me, a _________ murderer"

#5 I AM
Quote:
"Some'll fall but I rise, thug or die
Makin' choices, that determine my future under the sky
To rob steal or kill, I'm wondering why
It's a dirty game, is any man worthy of fame?
Much to success to ya, even if you wish me the opposite
Sooner or later we'll all see who the prophet is"

#6 God's Son
Quote:
"Let the music diffuse all the tension
Baller convention, free admission
Hustlers, dealers and killers cud move swift
Girls get close, you cud feel where the tool's kept
All my just comin' homies, parolees
Get money, leave the beef alone slowly
Get out my face, you people so phoney
Pull out my waist, the Eagle Fo Four me"

#7 The Lost Tapes
Quote:
"Turnin nothin into somethin, is God work
And you get nothin without struggle and hard work
War is necessary to my ni___ in chains
From Greene to Sing-Sing, I'm wantin y'all to know one thing
The hardest thing is to forgive, but God does
Even if you murdered or robbed, yeah it's wrong, but God loves
Take one step toward him, he takes two toward you
Even when all else fail, God supports you"

#8 Life is Good
Quote:
"Ayo, late night candle light fiend wit diesel in his needle
Queenbridge leader no equal
I come from the wheel of Ezekiel
To pop thousand dollar bottles of scotch
Smoke pot and free the people"

#9 Hip Hop is Dead
Quote:
"Everybody sound the same, commercialize the game
Reminiscin' when it wasn't all business
It forgot where it started
So we all gather here for the dearly departed
Hip-hopper since a toddler
One homeboy became a man, then a mobster
If it dies, let me get my last swig of Vodka
R.I.P., we'll donate your lungs to a rasta"

#10 Street's Disciple
Quote:
"Like Paul, Michael and Matthew, Peter, James and Andrew
Phillip, Simon and Judas -- I'm disciple of music
Street beats is the main thing minus the traitor
And I'm not a dictator, I'm the righteous invitin' you haters
Inside the life of the greatest, it'll take you through something real"

#11 Nastordamus
Quote:
"One 44, two 45's
3 loaded clips, 4 ni___ roll, one ni___ drives
500 Benz, 6 reasons why
This kid should die
We shootin' every motherfucker outside
Pulled on his block, jumped out the car, guns in our hands
At the same time every body ran"

Lets not act like Jay's discography is any more consistent. He has his share of weak music.
