As for why Jones was tested for a recreational drug out that is not considered a banned substance out of competition, Bennett said

"That was a bit of an anomaly that will be addressed [at the next NAC hearing on] Jan. 12. It was not a report requested by the NAC. It appears to have been an administrative oversight."

Jones was actually tested twice on Dec. 4 because, according to Bennett, his first urine sample was a bit "watery." Both tests were positive for cocaine metabolites.

Jones' next out-of-competition drug screening following the Dec. 4 test came on Dec. 18. He passed that test, however, he was not tested for cocaine because, as Bennett stated, that was an "anomaly."

"Just for out of competition drugs such as anabolic steroids, no street drugs," Bennett said when asked if Jones was tested for cocaine and other recreational drugs after the Dec. 4 test.

For people asking why Diaz gets in trouble and not Jones

They also mention his post-fight test was not released yet. Would be another shitstorm if that turns out positive

he has a very good case if he does choose to. now it all makes sense why the NAC didn't reveal the results beforehand, because they weren't supposed to test for it in the first place.

That'd be hilarious if Jones sues and wins.

So it sounds like he tried to over-hydrate to either flush the shit out of his system because he knew he'd piss dirty, or make the test fail so he'd have time to retake it.

Also interesting that they didn't test for cocaine the next time. I guess this ruins the whole theory that his second test after Dec. 4 "proves" he was clean (not that a single other test on Dec. 18 proves anything beyond that small window of time around that date anyway).

    Hilarious.

I hate being the guy to defend Jones as I very much dislike him, but he really didn't break any rules.

its not that interesting that he wasn't tested the 2nd time because he was never supposed to have been the 1st time, which they corrected the 2nd test.

also i highly doubt he tried to over hydrate so he didn't fail because I'm sure he knew the test was for PED's and not recreational drugs.

Lol so Jones did nothing wrong and it was the commission who fucked up?

    Is normal.

Also shows how much he was being tested, got another one only two weeks later.

Was DC also being randomly tested??

The thing that is ridiculous about it, is that most of the guys (if not all of them) that have tested positive for marijuana have only tested positive inactive metabolites, and not THC. It should fall into the same category as out of competition use. They could have stopped using marijuana 4-6 weeks out and still tested positive, whereas Jones could have used cocaine 3-4 days before his fight and tested clean.

Sherdog main site had an article on it leading up to the fight. Both fighters were tested twice randomly.

the real question is wtf kind of operation is the NSAC running? how do you accidentally test someone for recreational drugs and ruin his reputation....then just go oops our bad didn't mean to???

Yeah but in competition refers to 12 hours before the fight and the post-test according to the article. When they actually took the illegal substance is irrelevant because according to the rules all that matters is what comes up in the test. As bad of a rule that is- that's what it is so it makes sense why Jones does not get punished by the AC. The UFC punishing him is a whole different issue as I'm sure he likely broke some code-of-conduct type stuff which if they felt like it they could probably punish him.
