I have been training for about a year now, its more like a hobby (I have a full time job) but I am beginning to like to compete and want to really learn the techniques. hopefully soon i can train more often.

These are my two matches Ive had this ar so far, first time i ever competed in anything so its super noobish. Any thoughts welcomed.

Feb 09 (in all black) My first match eva as you can probably notice. I didn't really have a plan at the time. I gas horribly at the end I think because my breathing was off under pressure.

May 09 (in all black) (this past weekend) This time I tried to work on countering and timing a bit. ..and composure

I know I need to keep my hands up and STOP ruining straight back...bad habits.

I don't feel like I'm at a stage where I can make suggestions, but one thing I can say is that you seemed much more at ease and confident in your movements in the second match. Obvious statement is obvious, but I just wanted to let you know I see the improvement.

Keep it up and have fun.

Noticeable improvement from the first fight. While I'm not an expert and this may be biased, I suggest working a little with a boxing coach on head movement. You're throwing good punches and are aggressive , if you had the head movement going for you , you'd get hit a lot less.

Good job though. Much better than I did in my first fights.

not too shabby, don't be afraid to stay in the "pocket" more often. You would be surprise what you would land.

Nice Brazilian kicks.

Hey Fresco, my only bit of advice... you have a great clinch, use it a bit more. Every time you went into the clinch, and started throwing knees, it looked like you not only had the upperhand, but that you hurt him a bit too.

Good matches.

Thanks man, I see that too, I get stiff sometimes and my head movement is almost non existing. We train mostly 75% of the time just kicks and knees, I am going to emphasize more on hands training hopefully we can see the improvement next time around.

I always wanted to throw that kick and surprised me how much it landed. Didn't know it was called a Brazilian kick. ..in act never knew what the hell it was, I just started throwing it in sparring one day, we don't train that kick.

I liked the brazilian kicks, and your lead roundhouse was nice and fast, but you power roundhouse kicks seemed kinda weak to be honest, no snap/whip(and not as in chambering :). I dunno if maybe you're not supposed to go full power with kicks in a smoker? No smokers in my country.

I did not notice you stepping out with your pivot foot when kicking. That step(even if it's a small one) helps you generate a lot of power as it opens your hips. You can use it with feints/hooks/angles as well. You probably step out when doing pads/bags?

Honestly yeah my kicks weren't full power because I was trying to reserve energy (since I gassed so bad in my first match) but in retrospect I should of because I could of easily gone another round. Also if you notice they try and prevent TKOs, when a fighter is getting hurt they usually break it up and restart, guess for safety reasons.

Yeah in pad drills we step out and and turn the hips but I guess once my head gear goes on I forget all training and technique :icon_conf

Thanks I will try and throw more power to test my gas tank.

Yeah, I was wondering if you was trying to save gas. But personally I'd rather limit my kicking and do the kicks with full power, it's gotta be a pretty clean headkick if you wanna do any damage with low power. You could also try doubling up on the kicks, then you can use the step to skip closer. Helps you with the judges too :)

First of all congrats on stepping in there and fighting, and then returning for a second fight. Work on a front kick (Some call it a teep kick) that and a side kick as they will keep your opponent back. Your roundhouse is fine you just need to practice it more to make it faster and stronger, that will come with time.

In the second video, I would have teeped is ass all day long. Use it more as you have long legs. Thanks for the GZA music. Brought back memories

Those Brazilian kicks were beautiful.
Anyway, you seemed to like to throw head kicks, but most of the time when you threw them his hands were up. Take a couple moments in the fight to feel him out and see how his hands move next time. I noticed for the majority of the leg kicks he threw, his hands dropped and went wide. I also saw you working that leg kick counter where you stepped back to avoid his kick and fired your own to his body. You could have cracked him in the jaw with the same kick if you noticed his hands dropping.
Great fight though. Your knees looked pretty nasty and your hands looked crisp.

just curious about the rules,i don't know anything about smokers.
can you hit with full power?

Not sure how the this whole muay thai kickboxing stance works but as a boxing practioner I say work on some footwork and angles so you can strike from every which way. Find a decent boxing coach and he will help you tighten up and get the foundation going and you will have good hand strike defence to at the end.

I agree in that you showed a big improvement from the first fight to the the second.

Your Brazilian Kicks are hella good.
You were countering his forward movement with low kicks well.
As Corey pointed out, you were landing some good knees from the clinch , next time hold the clinch longer and fire off more knees against an opponent with a weak clinch game .
Also you do throw a lot of head kicks but they were mainly blocked.Try and hide the headkick after you throw a 2-4 punch combo.

Overall technique looked very good with the exception of you looking like you were landing the shots for points instead of power, and your boxing could be a little tighter.

Keep up the great work.

I don't know because my expertise isn't Muay Thai, but you seem be circeling the same way the entire fight, which can get a bit predictable. I would work on moving both was latteraly to make a harder target.

Never the less, looks very good.

Already lots of good advice in here. On thing I would add is that you might want to try setting up your leg/head kicks. Either work an angle or throw some punches to set them up. If you just throw kicks in isolation, you're going to get eaten up by a guy who is good at counters (and countering a single kick is pretty easy). A simple 1-2->kick is an easy combo and you'll notice it's harder for your opponent to counter afterwards.

Props on the win bro, and let us know when you fight again.

just curious about the rules,i don't know anything about smokers.
can you hit with full power?

Smokers are just exhibition fights. Here in California, smoker MT is basically regular MT with no elbows, no knees to the head, and headgear/shin guards/16oz gloves. We usually use smokers for lead up to an amateur debut, or as a warm up for a more experienced fighter prepping for a "real" fight.

You looked like the average beginner fighter: a bit stiff and couldn't catch a steady rhythm. Not being able to fight in an actual ring also sucks so that may have played a role. I enjoyed watching the 2 videos too. Good job.

I thought you looked good for your first two fights for sure.

It has already been said, but one thing that jumped out at me (particularly in the first fight) is that when you're dealing with an aggressive opponent who is always pushing forward, you should try to make use of the teep/push kick more.

Good job.
