Well I live in chicago and I have been trying to get my cardio up to the next level. I always run bleacher stairs in the summer, and if you have ever done this you no it is a hell of a workout, anyways I always see all the girls at the health club using those stairmasters, and I always blew it off thinking how much of a work out can you get on those hahaha I got on one the other day set the time for 20 minutes at level 12, and damn thats a good work out I cant wait to go to the gym tomorow.

Any one got any good workouts on a stair master. intervals, etc..

stairs are real good

I used to run in my dorms stairwell all the time my freshman year

The stair master feels awkward to me. But the local Y has one of those stair treadmill type machines where it's like an escalator.

I would like to train on one of those high speed treadmills that goes up to 25 mph.

my old gym had one of those. i like that better, but personally i just can't do stationary machines.

We use a stairmill for our VO2 testing. It's deceptive.

True. I work in a 12 story office building and I wish I could run the stairs. But I know security would be all over me....

If you outran them or had to drag them up the stairs to make it that would be an even better workout. Of course if you got tasered that would suck.

The escalator type stair machine is the best. I will be doing that first thing in the morning.

I like the stairmaster as a posterior chain warm-up. Most people hunch over on it but if you stand up on it and get that heel-butt connection with relatively deep steps (not hyperextending however) it gets the blood going to your hips/ass.

I usually use ellipticals for LSD, switching between the interval and hill programs. My conditioning is getting better, but still at a moderate level. I'm looking to use other things, but the treadmills are always packed.

Stairs are very fun and a good workout. To make the sets even harder, start to incorporate new things into it: run up every other stair and then run up every stair. Hop up the stairs or every other stair. Sprint up the stairs for 30 seconds and then jog up the stairs for 30 seconds. Try to mix up the routines and challenge yourself. You'll find your conditioning improve greatly.

I'm not that big a fan of stairmasters, they just don't feel right to me for some reason.

People have given me weird looks on more than one occasion, but the hotel/casino I work it has about 15 levels, and I run up the stairwell there a few times a week. Great exercise
