Well just got done with Grapplers Quest (which was my first tourny) and boy did I enjoy it.

I competed in the Men's Novice No-Gi Cruiserweight (180-189.9) and I came in at 189.4 after cutting a few lbs.

The weighin's last night were really quick and it felt great to get some damn food finally.

Ok now with the tourny,

My first match was against a guy from Cobra Kai and I def. think he was sandbagging. This was his 3rd tournament, so his nerves were a lot more calm then mine were. The match started, and he clinched and he pretty much pulled guard, at first I was going to walk out of it, but did't know if that was under stalling rules, so I engaged. I kept in real close and heard his cornber yelling for submission, I stayed close and felt 3 time that he moved to the left for a sub, so I postured up, and made sure to cirle left. I tried passing his guard by prying his legs to no avail, so I suicide passedit (put 1 arm in his legs anticipating a triangle and to work the pass, instead he goes for the arm and I get side control, and he regains half guard before I get my points. We do the same thin again, this time I go for mount (before I got my 3 pts in side control) he reverses position and tries to Brabo Choke me to no avail (at this point score is 0-0 1-1 advantage). I get out sprawl on him and sink in a deep brabo, the thry call time (I wil 2-1 adv thanks to the last Brabo)

Next match was with a guy from team MICA. We clinch up, he puts his head down, I sink a deep guiltine, and drag hime down to force the tap.

3rd and final match (I got a bye due to injury) I go against a guy named sam from City Boxing. He was a freaking ATHLETE. We clinch and I get a good thai clinch and wear him out a little, let go and he stands straight up. Back to the clinch I try to whip him around a try to take the back, we have a scramble back to the position. We clinch I double pump see he stands up again, so I shoot and sink in a deep deep double and take him down in his side control. Get my points and about 8 seconds later gain mount, I throw in some grapevines and my knee pops, it pops back in, and feels so/so. I keep the vines in and really stay heavy (didn't want to lose position with my bum knee) he knee elbow escaped and I sink in a pretty deep brabo, and I have it locked up and I hear my coach yell 30 seconds, so I don't turn into the Brabo and chance losing position, I let him back up and we clinch until time is up. I won 9-0.

Overall I went 3-0 w/ 1 injury bye. I took first in my division and was really happy.

My team overall went 1-2-2 and no plave (4 competed)

Joe Stevenson was the paper person on my first match and I got to talk to him quite a bit, he's pretty cool.

Other people there was Jeff Monson, Kendall Grove, Eddie Bravo, Mark Laimon, Tyson Griffin and it was pretty cool.

Eddie came up to me and gave me a big congrats and said he I did grat and that he hopes my knee heals (I got it wrapped by medical)

Whelp that is enough typing on my Blackberry..... Now it's VIVA LAS VEGAS TIME

LOL, I've really been wworking Brabo to do against wrestlers after they sprawl, and I worked it A LOT. I feel more comfortable sinking a brabo the a guilitine a lot of times because the control you still have and how much a guilitine wears you out (if held long) so I stuck to my plan and that's what makes me happy, I was able to think clearly.

Oh and I've been training about 9 months with 2 months off due to a new born.

And you better believe I am proud, I was in a very stacked division.

right on, what is ur grappling experience like man, u ever wrestle or do judo or anything. good luck with the next tourny. also did u get nervous

9 months in BJJ w/ 2 months off becuase of my newborn.

Nervous? NERVOUS... I almost threw up a few times, and it didn't help to find out my first opponent had done 2 tournaments previously.

I do have some freestyle wrestling experience back in HS (7 years ago) but that was limited because I was a state swimmer and my swim coach limited my wrestling to make suire I stayed healthy for swimming and water polo.

Update on my knee, it is really stiff right now, icing it up, and I seemed to suffer a groin shot, and have a bruised testicle (I know you all wanted to know that)

I am planning on competing at the next Gracie tourny, hear that one is pretty good and has a more open experience bracket

great job..

as for me...I had 9 fights...took 4th in the advanced no gi division and 4th in the gi division.

too bad i didnt win any medals though...but the fact that i had 9 fights made up for that..getting as much experience as i can

Thanks. Glad you enjoy'ed the read. I hope I covered everything. I have all the matches on tape and hope to post up on youtube (they were so / so matches, but I am proud of the outcomes and they are helping me learn my mistakes).

Trying to take care of the nut and knee....
