I'm 43 years old, I have lifted weights off and on for 27 years, in the last 2 years I have consistently worked on my deadlift, and I have never deadlifted 4 plates. Do you feel sorry for me?

That depends on what your diet is like ;)

Your injury doesn't have anything to do with it?

I think if you are able to pull 180kg outside of the gym before the contest, your confidence will be much higher at the competition.

Edit: Sorry if I sound like a douche to anyone, just write me off as ignorant. You guys will be pulling 4 plates soon enough.

No, my injury doesn't bother my deadlifting. I think you are way overestimating what the average person can pull. More than half of the people on the "Sherdog's Strongest Man" thread have never pulled 405. And these are people that are dedicated to getting stronger. Here is a list of all the people that can't pull 405:

I think I am overestimating what people can pull. If you look in most of those people's training logs, though, you'll see most of the ones that can't pull 405 haven't been pulling more than once a month for the last year. I think that may have something to do with it. The guys that pull at least twice a month, generally, other than the super lightweights, can pull 405. I think you'll be doing it in a month or so, anyway. And it looks like you haven't been really serious for very long, I read your whole log :p

Except for the 520 to 330, I don't see an issue.

Holy shit, I can understand some people benching more than they squat (sometimes squats are a bitch) but wtf. Does ANYONE other than super elite bench specialists actually bench more than they deadlift?

Yeah, at least that is the case with me. I have not focused on the deadlift at all, I kind of want to try to solve my squat problems first.

Mr. Totality has some explaining to do. Maybe he has 6 inch arms like a T-Rex?

Why am I being derided here? I only posted lifts I actually did, unlike some of the people on the Sherdog's strongest man. Format is squat/bench/deadlift, right? What's wrong with 395/270/390?

I also suspect I can squat more right now since I can easily triple with 375, but I'm not going to post new numbers until I do the lifts, and I'm working out at home without a spotter so I'm not loading 415 on right now.

I don't know why I'm so weak in the DL, other than blaming my parents for the short arms. which you'd think would make for a big bench, but I don't do a ton of bench due to old man shoulder problems.

I'd like ChaseT and joshetc to explain their problem with my lifts.

You shouldn't bench more than you can pull. If so, take off you 9-ply denim-enforced canvas shirt and start pullin'. You seriously get laughed at if you bench more than you pull.

Cmart, nothing wrong with your lifts, 'cept that you're WICKED close to 405. Keep pullin'

I don't see anything wrong with those numbers. I squat more than I deadlift.

The dude that squats 500+ and only pulls 3 something....

Idiot postwhores creep me out. If you're not going to explain yourself, why not do me a favor and take a running fuck at a gravel road?

Are some people faking their numbers in the "Sherdog's Strongest Man" thread? This is news to me.

There is nothing wrong with those numbers. It looks a whole lot better than my 240/250/365. A lot of people squat more than they deadlift, particularly experienced lifters. However, something is going on with Mr. Totality. I don't know how one could squat 520 but only deadlift 330. Maybe he just mixed up the format?

Don't worry Cmart, by now ChaseT has probably put you on his ignore list.

I hope people aren't faking their numbers in "Sherdog's Strongest". At least the "Race to 1500" thread stays real, since they require videos of the lifts. They never update the leader board on Sherdog's Strongest anyways...

It's actually a good motivator that someone's "ahead" of me in the 165 class, but the guy that faked up those numbers (Poseidon9) is full of crap, I guarantee he can't lift those weights as a teenager, 5'11" and 161, and it bugs me that Urban doesn't call bullshit and erase him. He doesn't post here anymore anyway.

But that's just me taking offense at someone's "internet strength" so I guess I'll own that. My numbers are demonstrable and, in some cases, documented. Not super impressive, but that's my motivator. One of them.

...by the way, thread starter Maori:

Sorry to barge into your thread with this crap.

You may notice a significant adrenaline rush resulting in some nice PR's in your comp. I distinctly remember shattering a big mental barrier with a hyped-up lift in a high school comp. Try to listen to the crowd and let their energy feed you, along with your nerves at your own performance, your fear of your competitors, etc. These things can be a detriment if you dwell on them but at a focused moment they can feed you a lot of power.
