I visit a lot of contractors so I usually have to sign one of these sheets each time I go.

I've actually seen the Time In/Time Out reversed on some of these sheets. Never understood why. That's minor though because you tend to follow the people ahead of you anyway. If it's a halfway filled up sheet you will see one column already filled (IN) and the other column unfilled because they haven't left yet. If you are the first in that day then a quick scan of the times already entered on the sheet will tell you right away which one is IN vs OUT. And if it's a fresh sheet you will read the column titles thoroughly before filling it in. That's no biggie.

The other one though (ear plug box) should be put back on the sheet (IMO). Now instead of the visitor being aware that they need ear protection, the guards or the person escorting the visitor will have to remind that person. Then again the person who escorts the visitor will almost always remind people to wear protection and there should be warning signs plastered everywhere (particular on doors to danger areas).

Well, at least he owns the place.

When you're in a large corporate structure full of managers with vague job titles, arbitrary changes are an ongoing routine, because a lot of people are trying to look like they're doing something useful.

    Is work politics.

I hate the meetings to discuss how some project should be done. Often it could be finished in the time spent discussing it.

There are always things than management overlooks. They installed some new equipment where I worked and wondered why the power cost so much more at our facility than their other similar facilities.

When they installed it, they had discussions with the power company about time of use rates. They could save 40% on electricity on off peak hours. What they failed to understand was that if any power on that service is used during peak hours, all of the power run through that meter was charged at peak prices. There was another service 50 feet away from the building that could have been wired in for use during peak times but they didn't want to spend $10,000 to connect to it.

They were also paying an average of $4,000/month for a power factor penalty. We had the system monitored and got a quote to install equipment to correct the power factor to 95%. The quote was $56,000 for equipment and installation. The company president decided that there wasn't money in the budget to do it. I tried to explain to him that it would pay for itself in 14 months but all they look at is the annual spending because it determines what their pay will be for the year. They don't care about the following year because their job depends on what happens in the current year. It would be considered a repair rather than a new equipment purchase that would be amortized over 5 years. Penny wise and pound foolish.

Some of the powerfully ignorant & stupid management decisions I've seen make me question the entire traditional hierarchical structure of companies.

CRUSHER: I'm not sure whether we should go over this hill or that one. The topography on this map is a little vague.
    PICARD: Let me see...this way.
CRUSHER: You don't really know, do you?
    PICARD: What?
CRUSHER: I mean, you're acting like you know exactly which way to go, but you're only guessing. Do you do this all the time?
PICARD: No. But...there are times when it is necessary for a captain to give the appearance of confidence.

Supposedly they are there to help out staff but in reality they protect the business. Had some fun dealings with them before.

Yeah, we all know they are "company ppl".
    The question was rhetorical.
I was trying to say that the worst kind of ppl go into hr. Pure sociopaths who weren't strong/lucky enough to make CEO/upper upper mgmt. There's a reason certain types of ppl go into certain professions.

A friend of mine worked for Menards in the plant where they made wooden trusses for pole buildings and houses and garages. The plant got slow in the winter so they laid off employees. When it got extremely busy in the spring and summer they would be trying to hire and train people while working overtime. After 10 years my friend got to be manager of the plant. He talked to the people running the pole barn division and the stores to see what they were going to offer discounts on in the spring. He had his employees build those trusses during the slack time in the winter so he could keep all of his employees. He had inventory when the sales picked up in the spring and had experienced workers who could keep up with the orders so they didn't need to work much overtime. Plant managers were paid a bonus on a portion of the profits that their plant made. My friend was in line for $250,000 bonus that he was planning to share with his employees but the higher ups decided he shouldn't get all of that and only gave him $25,000. He quit right after he got it and went to work for another company.
