He's not a pro lifter or anything like that and doesn't take any drugs or even supplements (he won't even take an aspirin for a headache)

Been having this question for a while on Shrugs exactly how high do you have to be able to shrug it up? When I'm doing a medium weight I lift to the very top and it looks like a perfect shrug but when I do a heavier load I can lift it up pretty high but not all the way would this count?

Edit: I've heard some people say its okay to cheat on shrugs as long as you get them up but I'm not sure how valid that is.

Im not usually one to flame or criticize harshly, but dude c'mon now. Not only is he not shrugging anything, but hes not even doing an exercise. 0/10

In order for any exercise to be considered complete, you have to follow through the entire range of motion of the targeted muscle. In this vids case, hes not doing that.

Edit: The bar would have to at least move from the position it starts

I hate when people do shit like this. In my opinion it is stupid. Not to mention, I wouldn't exactly call those "shrugs." His shoulders hardly moved, if they moved at all.

I remember reading an article by someone knowledgeable (Pendlay, Starr or someone like that) saying to shrug your shoulders up with no weight. That's what a barbell shrug should be like. Too many people do half-ROM shrugs. We wouldn't do that with other lifts and shrugs shouldn't get a free pass.

The best part is when the camera man says "at least there were no injuries today". Not yet lol.

What exactly are the spotters doing there also? This reminds me of when I was in middle school and we got a leg press in the gym and all the kids would load up the press with 500 lbs and straighted out their legs and get all pumped because they "pressed"

Other than in conversation, when else would one need to shrug?

i will admit he did in fact lift a shit ton of weight and that in itself is impressive, but like jake and ballistics said, this isnt a shrug. theres no shrug or anything that remotely resembles a shrug in this video. if it cant be lifted properly and performed correctly, its pointless. not hating on him but this is a show

Much respect for even being able to pick that much weight up, but those shrugs were pitiful. Drop the weight and do proper shrugs, that was nothing more than a dick waving contest.

Yeah, like I said about the ROM... a complete exercise is one that follows the total comfortable range that a muscle is 'activated'. This arent shrugs, these are mutant calf raises with a hint of slipped L5-L7 discs.

He should have alerted the authorities of shrugging that this was going to happen. He could have claimed the world record. Guess it sits with this guy for now.

It should be shoulders to ears to get the full contraction on the trapezius those were like 1/4 shrugs. Youd get no benefit doing those it would just be a kind of look what i can do thing.

This. A lift is not a lift if it is a partial, and does not complete the full ROM. Partials, or incomplete lifts, are the exact reason why people are able to claim outrageous bullshit like a 1125lb shrug as a natural lifter.

I dont know. *shrugs* :icon_lol:

The shrug is combination of rear deltoid and trap. The application of this movement in real life is actually a lot more common than you think. I dont know if thats exactly what you were asking, but yeah.

I think his ears moved to complete the illusion lol

Now that I've seen the video, why is there 7 minutes worth of this nonsense?
