My biggest regret in life so far (dental health related):

Referral from a rich dude!
Does he have a title of any kind? (your dentist)

I've been scouring the internet for an expert dentist in my area.

So hard to know who is who.

There's got to be some way to distinguish the genuine high level practitioners from the con artists.

Kind of sounds like it was "word of mouth" in your case, that worked out well?

My old scum bag dentist was constantly trying to upsell and he told me "you need to have those old fillings taken out and refilled". Ok pal. I make my own decisions. Went to a new dentist and she said they are fine as is unless they are bothering me. Unfortunately my wife fell for it and had all hers drilled out and replaced

Mine has his qualifications listed from reputable institutions, and has been pursuing post doctorate qualifications during his 22yrs of practice. Plus there's always reviews online etc. But my go to was to ask a person I know who I trust for a recommendation.

I guess I want experience of a couple of decades and continued education, an established practice that serves wealthy clients and good reviews.

I fell asleep during a root canal, was snoring apparently 😂, most expensive and best nap I've ever had.

Cold press coconut oil pull bro! You're welcome...

I had to get all all implants due to my gums being messed up in my late 40s. It's not fun and cost me like 45k .

Damn, that sucks.

So many questionable "professionals" in dentistry.

How many fillings did she get replaced?

Did they work out okay? No additional damage to the teeth?

Make sure to stick with dental checks each 6/12 months moving forward cause replacements = the tooth changes shape = potential complications that weren't there prior.

Mercury amalgam were better fillings anyways, tougher and lasted longer.

Was that genetic?

As in your gum issues weren't due to poor hygiene or anything?

How is using your teeth now? Painless and you can eat okay?

If your gums are messed up and you get implants, does that hurt in every day life?

Yeah it's great when you can have genuine confidence in your provider.

I've been asking and researching and sending e-mails and getting recommendations etc etc for weeks now, trying to find someone I can have good faith is reliable and skilled.

What I've learned is, so many dentists, they embrace "the hustle", as they call it.

And it also has a higher suicide rate than another other profession.

If I was allowing someone to take a drill to my teeth, I wouldn't feel the least bit reassured they're that unhappy.
Which I assume is why so many have so little conscience about royally fucking over as many naive patients as they can.

It was a handful of fillings. The procedure was painful and annoying...out of pocket was like 500 or so. Her teeth were sore for a while after but then it went away. So it wasn't some disaster just a complete waste of time and money and aggravating.

I had hereditary gum disease. My dad had to have same thing.

What hurt was having all the teeth pulled and a bunch of metal poat drilled in my jaw bone. Then waiting 6 months on a liquid diet for it to heal . Once I got em no pain at all was a little weird feeling till I got used to it.

It did really hurt my wallet though :(

Yes genetic . Teeth are great now. Feels weird a few weeks till you adjust .

I have gum issues as well so thank you for your answer. I see what you did as something I might have to do in the future. The money isn't as much of a concern as is the fact that I'm worried about paying a bunch of money just to be in constant pain. It makes me feel better about it if I wouldn't have to worry about that.

removing my wisdom teeth was the worst thing i ever did.. and most painful i have broken many bones to

Most Dentists scam on some level. I've had a dentist mess up a crown, caused me to get a root canal. The root canal got infected, had to have the infection drained out. All this happened because I also was convinced to remove a silver filling with a crown.

I think this is mostly voodoo nonsense.

What's the "science" behind it anyways?
You trust "the science"?

But truthfully, people have been doing it for thousands of years so there's something to it most likely. Can it rebuild a giant rotten cavity... Probably not...
