Sometimes its best to just walk away from a project like that. Then come back later with a fresh perspective and avoid the pitfalls that wore you down to the point of not wanting to finish it. Don't call it dead yet, just think of it being on hold until the time is right.

I had a life drawing instructor in college who after 6 hours of drawing had us put up our 3 favorite drawings from the day on the wall. Then we had to talk about what we liked about them and mark our favorite with a little 'x'. After everyone in class had done this he got out a trash can and made us tear up our favorite drawing in front of him and throw it away.
He wanted to teach us that everything we do isn't precious and we should have the confidence in our abilities to recreate what we had done before.
I don't know if there is a life lesson in all that or if the instructor was just a dick though

I read it in early 2000. I was pretty strung out so it didn't fuck with me like it did other people. My life was scary enough.

and i think you're in a good place here

there are those who would troll, and lie, and seek to sew unrest, but they are broadly overshadowed by the more salient voices of wisdom, compassion, and solidarity

now, i wouldn't want to make an analogy between what you're going through and how my failure on this project was getting me down, but i came in here feeling genuinely low, and just talking through it with some honest and encouraging voices has gone a long way
