How much is your budget? I'm a professional drummer, I can help with tips, where/how to find killer deals.

$500 is what I want to spend on a basic kit. Is that too cheap?

No way, that's a totally acceptable budget. Are you looking for just a simple, 4 or 5 piece kit, with basic cymbals? If so, I can suggest some good options. If you're looking for a kit with more pieces (more toms, double bass, etc), then that budget might be hard.
