Muscle relaxants & stretching?

You can't stretch in a soma-coma dude. All you can do is slither around and melt into things.

I wouldn't do anything like this except under medical supervision in a hospital or something. Developing flexibility on drugs doesn't seem like it would be beneficial once you're off the drugs. Learning how to control the muscles in extreme RoMs and build strength there is important.

I dont see why not? My basic reasoning is, what largely inhibits the stretch is your muscles working against you. So, by relaxing the muscles I can stretch further than I otherwise could.

I have pretty chronic tightness in my lower legs, which is pretty damn painful anywhere close to the stretch threshold - (the rest of my body reacts well to standard stretching). Plus I dont have means for PNF so...

Never tried it with stretching but they are wonderful for golf! :)

What do you mean you dont have the means to PNF. You use your own body. I dont buy the cant get flexible thing. Anyone can, and in a short amount of time. I used to be super inflexible, read some Tom Kurz and others and within a few months i was doing splits and high kicks. Now I barely stretch ever and still have it.

Powerlifting style low bar squats stress the hammies and adductors in a way that helps flexibility alot. Good mornings and RDL'is for the hammies.

stretch first thing in the morning. you will be unflexible as hell, but this will help alot.... ease into it. You need to spend alot of time initiaally stretching, 30min- 1 hour. Thankfully only for a few months.

As far as muscle relaxers, sounds fun. I take painkillers and do training sometimes and its awsome.

Yea I'd opt to just stretch out more every day

*Groan*

The tightness in your muscles serves a purpose; it's a sign you don't have the strength to safely support yourself in extended ROMs. Aside from the high potential for injury, using relaxants is pointless - they don't build strength and any "gains" you made would be lost once they wore off.

This should help: http://www.martialartsplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89245

I meant I dont have access to a partner for some PNF stretches. I understand what you mean, and for other areas of my body it works fine. But I have chronic inflexibility in the back of my legs. Its something which has been affirmed by various specialists etc...

Also I realise limitations serve a purpose, but I'm not advocating anything extreme. In fact my main concern is to be able to hold a good hamstring stretch without the sharp pain that accompanies it. And just to put it in perspective, my long term aim is to be able to touch my toes, which sort of indicates the degree of inflexibility that I possess.

I was just gonna buy the book (Scientific Stretching or something). My girl says that I don't need a book but she did ballet for 20 years so she can kiss it (and she does :icon_twis (sometimes :icon_sad:)). It really works? This would be huge for me. I am generally inflexible and her brand of stretching leaves me in pain.
