At my store we don't carry the MM Light, or the MM Collegiate. We get asked for it on occasion but because we don't carry it and because most of our clients are either athletes or people who ARE athletic to some degree who buy protein routinely, I never bothered to learn the differences.

So apparently MM light is just MM made for people who bitch about the MCT's, right? Okay, that I can sort of understand, think it's stupid but I get it. It jives. People are paranoid about fat, always have been since the AHA started on their "low fat EVERYTHING" campaign which they still stress to this day.

But the Collegiate? WTF? Wassat even mean? I figured it was maybe half-dose MM like the Mighty Milk is in regards to the Muscle Milk RTD's that are the same size. No. Check this shit out. Muscle Milk is apparently against NCAA regulations. So Muscle Milk Collegiate is their product that correlates with NCAA regulations. Why is MM against the NCAA's rules? An ingredient? GCC? MCT's? No...wait for it....

IMPROPER protein/carb/fat ratio.

..............HA HA HA HA HA HA!! That's got to be the single dumbest regulation I've ever heard in my life. They actually say Muscle Milk's carb/fat/protein ratio is AGAINST THE RULES. So er...what happens to you if you eat a meal that's identical to the carb/fat/protein ratio? Nothing. How do they even know? Who knows? They state that they just don't want coaches giving that to athletes.

Bravo NCAA. You just took the cake from the IOC and FDA on ignorance.

P.S. - We have plethoras of College Athletes (UNLV) who use the regular Muscle Milk.

Rjkd12's response when I told him about this:

"Excuse me sir, is that a george forman grill in your bag? Do you realize that allows TOO much fat to drip away into that little plastic tray? Do you realize that not getting enough grease when you eat a burger is against NCAA rules?"

Are you fucking serious? That regulation is a fucking joke.

I'm in disbelief here, seriously my neck is sore from shaking my head.

They also have caffeine on their banned substances list. One too many diet cokes and sorry kid, you can't play.

Thank god they're looking out for the integrity of the sport! Can't have these kids getting unnaturally pumped up with their improper fat/carb/protein ratio MRPs.

I remember the good ol days when MRP abuse wasn't such a problem...

It's so ridiculous that it's hard to believe. If it wasn't coming from you KK, I'd probably look that shit up :icon_chee

KK, this is pretty well documented, I'm surprised you didn't hear about this earlier.

But, to clarify your post, it's against NCAA rules for coaches/schools to supply their players with normal MM because of the macronutrient ratio. It's not illegal for the student to use it or buy it himself. However, it *is* illegal for the coaches/schools to give the student money to buy the real deal, but that's a different rule entirely =p

Regarding the fear of fat thing I actually saw something the other day that renewed my faith in people somewhat. I was at Popeyes with my buddy who was looking to buy some weight gainer and I saw 5 VERY attractive/fit women waiting in line. All 5 of them were holding tubs of Muscle Milk. The guy at the counter told me that the stuff flies off the shelf and that it's mostly women who buy it. The guys usually hit up the NO Xplode and Cellmass.

That made me spit on my monitor, and protein, too.

Better way to articulate it, I was specifically aiming to play-up the stupidity. Just makes me wonder if it's illegal for the coach to cook a dinner with the same macronutrient ratio, or what have you. It's beyond comprehension dumb.

This post is great because when you said Popeye's all I could think about was people buying protein here:

http://www.popeyes.com/

But yeah, ladies LOVE the MM. Whenever they come in to buy protein and say they don't want the liquid cardboard their boyfriends drink, I give them MM. Two days later the dude will show up: "I want what you gave my girl." And sometimes a dude will buy it and come back soon for more because his girl drank it all.

MM tastes like a fast food shake, it's ridiculously good.

I thought of Fried Chicken too Sonny.

LOL! Sorry about the Fried chicken confusion. There are a chain of supplement stores in canada called Popeyes.

Remember when Gary Moeller got fired… errrrrr, resigned from his position as U of M’s football coach? As you may recall, he got drunk and went haywire at a local restaurant, causing a scene, attempting to dance with other patrons, scuffling with police, etc.

Yeah, well, what you may not know is that the whole incident was fabricated. It never happened.

On the eve of the previous week’s football game, Moeller received word of what was on the menu for the team’s pre-game meal and simply could not stand pat due to his childhood-born hatred of liver an onions (with a giant side of mashed potatoes). Moeller had no choice but to contact the Food Services department and order a switch to Swedish meatballs.

As is the usual practice, the NCAA sent a representative to take their weekly sampling of the pre-game meal to be sent off for lab tests. Guess what they found… that’s right – 52% protein, 19% carbohydrates and 29% fat.

These findings turned into an internal witch hunt, and ultimately, it was revealed that Moeller authorized the switch to Swedish meatballs. The University didn’t think they could sustain their reputation as a great institution, given the public scrutiny that would stem from visions of coaches running wild, free to change pre-game meals to illegal concoctions on a whim, so they created the “drunk and disorderly” story.

Moeller received a handsome payout to resign and keep his mouth shut.

True story.

Okay, thanks fatty, you just totally ruined my day. lol

I guess the ban sort of makes sense with what one of the larger more nutrionally (<<I just made that word up) educated guys I know says he does in that, when he wants to "naturally" increase his body's testosterone production he excessively increases his fat intake.

I haven't done much research on this, and this is only my third post so take it for what it's worth. However, his reasoning is in line with the NCAA, in that they want to limit testosterone enhancement.

I'm not sure meal replacements enhance testosterone.

No, but the obscenely high fat in MM would be along those lines, no?

I've read this before, too.

By the NCAA's logic, steak should be banned. Lots of protein, no carbs there :(.
