people love to keep track of random little happenings in nyc its quite the phenomenon

if no one died thats kind of a win imho

I went to NYC in 2016 for the NYE ball drop. Stayed about 2 blocks away from Times Square. The morning of the 31st the street cops told us they were shutting down the entire area, no in or out around 11am entirely so we grabbed a quick bite and hauled ass, spent all new years eve enjoying the city, then went to central Park for the fireworks show at the countdown.

We went back into Times Square afterwards about 1:30am and the garbage was piled up into walls of trash on the sidewalks, literally 4 to 5 feet high. The entire area smelled like a sewer, like piss and shit stewing and simmering in a hot, sun drenched dumpster and tossed out then washed all over the streets, over the walls the street signs. Literally a gag inducing stench.

This was back in 2016-2017 when Mariah Carey was caught lip syncing or some bs. There were no reports of stabbings or violence back then. Everyone was cool and seemingly understood the need for authority figures like police to keep the peace. I couldn't imagine being trapped in that hellhole now for 12 hours, hearing reports of stabbings, much less machete attacks on police officers lol.

New York smelled like shit, the people were absolute douchebags but it was still one of the most majestic cities in the world. What a miserable fkn mess this country is heading towards.

Lol, I typically wouldn't but these were all at the NYE celebrations. I was originally just looking at the cop attack with the machete, as apparently they're looking at it as some kind of terrorist attack

it was probably just one of the counter terrorism officers, who often the ones around those public high visibility areas , i asked them one time if they ever played counter-strike and the group of them didnt know what i was talking about so i kind of worry about their ability to properly respond to a threat but im just a civilian so wut do i know

That many people together, alcohol flowing, and only those acts of weaponized violence is pretty impressive tbh
Just about every country I have lived in, the US embassy would post on their website to stay away from large gatherings of people, for safety. Yet, it seems that gathering en masse in encouraged once we got back home.

I just don't see how standing around in freezing weather, alongside 2 million strangers is enjoyable.

But, to your point, it's remarkable not more people don't get injured in these types of events.

Kid had literally graduated NYPD Academy the day before.

Worst. First Day on the Job. Ever!
