I am pretty new to MT and the school requires shin protectors to train. Can anyone give me some recommendations for quality shin protectors for a decent price? Thanks

sorry 1st post...thanks for helping me out and posting the link

definitely use the search as this is asked every single week, but although i already have a pair i am looking at the top contender pro style shin protectors as a second/backup pair. i used to have the pro style windys and the TC's are modeled after those only they are 1/3 of the price. synthetic leather ones are 20 bucks while the real leather is like 35. that's cheap for decent quality stuff.

so if you are looking for a cost effective solution then check out the top contender pro style, but if you can spend a little more then take a look at ssf, ko fightgear, windys, or even the csi ones, although i've never had experience with the CSI guards.

I'd also recommend the Top Contender Pro Style. I bought those when I first started touch drills and sparring for MT and they work great. They offer lots of protection right on the shin bone, which is especially good for checking roundhouse kicks and getting yours checked, as I'm sure you will be doing a lot of when you first start drilling and sparring. Also, the price is right, and they are pretty durable in my experience.

i dont know how it actually is, but have you noticed in pictures how the synthetic and leather TC guards look like they have different straps? the synthetic ones look like wider straps. just seemed odd to me.

I actually never noticed that, but given a second look it does kind of look that way. Maybe the material they use for the straps is different?

is there any benefit to having leather shin protectors vs synthetic ones? Do they protect more...stay in place more?
