Does anyone know of a good Muay Thai gym in New York? I know about the WAT but that's pretty far downtown. Are there any others?

Ultimate Gym Muay Thai on 28th/Fifth Ave.

Five Points Fitness on 444 Broadway

I've trained at both and they both offer excellent instruction.

The 2 standouts in my opinion:

- Sitan in Astoria, Queens, under Aziz.
- The Wat in Manhattan, under Phil Nurse.

and the others that have been mentioned.

Sitan is a awesome gym and so is Ultimate Gym in the city. If your looking for a gym in the city I highly recommend Ultimate Gym, it is a hard-core gym with great instruction, but a lot of people say the owner can be an ass and that he can be arrogant, but he offers great instruction and that is what really matters, your not there to date, but train. Aziz is in Asotia Queens, great guy real laid back and offers really great training. He is hard-core on cardio and has a good group of guys.

Aziz offers more of a Dutch Thai boxing program while Ultimate is hard-core Muay Thai, very traditional.

165 month with a contract to Ultimate and Aziz is 120 month no contract.

Just started at Sitan myself and its been great so far... Originally started at 5 points, and while good, some of the people just rubbed me the wrong way. My only complaint with Sitan is its a bit small, but I love the location because its only a block away from me.

I felt the same way when I took a class at 5 points, one guy caught a fit because I caught him with a stiff jab. I was so pissed lol. The guy was supposedly on there fight team. I am sure 5 points has there good points, but it was not for me. Aziz is awesome! Glad that people in NYC are finally heading down to Astoria, he offers real solid training and is a great guy.

There's a new gym called Punch on Madison btw 78th and 79th that I've heard has a Muay Thai program. It's run by a guy named Dacosta. Considering the location, however, it probably costs an arm and a leg, plus an elbow and a knee.:D

It may be worth a call or a visit, though.

ive trained in sitan, its awesome. aziz is the man and will whip u into shape FAST

as for ultimate, i remember a couple years ago when i was lookin for a mt gym i stopped by there right after i walked in the guys training there (im assuming he was the owner) told me to get the fuck out and that they dont train kids-- i was about 15/16 at the time.

Good looking out. Hopefully I will move to NY soon so I would need a good MT place.

Yea I hear you, your not the only one to complain about his aditude, but the guy is a great trainer. Aziz is great, I wish he offered a late class like 8:30 lol so I would not be stuck on the BQE in heavy taffic lol.

The instructor at Ultimate has a purple belt in Vale Tudo. He offers lessons in this. FYI, Vale Tudo is like BJJ combined with wrestling and striking.

I know the WAT has already been mentioned and you said it was a little far, but trust me, it is well worth the trip. I travel there 4 times a week from queens. Takes me a fucking hour and half there and back, but I dont mind at all.

The training is top notch, there are many classes running practically all day, everyday (except sunday, theres only 1 class on that day) and the atmosphere is great. All the instructors are awesome and do NOT have attitude problems, unlike many other gyms out there.

I dont know what your schedule is like, but if you CAN make it, I suggest you do.

Btw to the poster above who asked if their are any hot babes at the Wat: That is an inappropriate question. That being said... yes, yes there are a few.

Thanks all for the great suggestions. I'll definately check these gyms out.

Thank You!!
