Hello
I am starting training MT here in Brazil, and I wanted a good pair of gloves that lasts for as long as possible.
I looked in the forums and found that the Fairtex looks like a very good brand, and I could find their BGV1 "Tight-Fit", which is good for me because I have small / medium sized hands.
I am about 137lbs... And I think that the training now will be more in the punch mitts.
Which would be the better size for me? 12oz, 14oz? and about the glove, would it be better to buy a fairtex super heavy bag glove or the BGV1 is as good to use with punch mitts?
For now I will buy only one pair of gloves...
BTW does any one know where I can buy with a reasonable price + shipping for Brazil?
Thanks for all the help!

Are you planning on sparring at all or will these only be for bag and pad work?

Hello!
I plan on doing mostly punch mitt work for now.
Heavy bag as I could see in the trainings is much less.
Sparring, maybe only next year!

I would look for a pair of 10-12oz Twins, I have had the same pair for pad/bag work for almost 2 years now and I love them. But eventually when you start sparring you will need a pair of 14 or 16 oz gloves.

I am looking into Twins gloves too, I only mentioned Fairtex because I could get a good price for them, and I heard very good comments about Fairtex BGV1 gloves.
Which model is yours Twins?
About the glove weight, a lighter glove has the advantage of durability too or only being lighter? A heavier glove offers more protection? There are other advantages / disadvantages between a lighter / heavier glove for punch mitt and bag work?

Another question, is there a clear consensus for MT gloves quality and price?
I know the brands Fairtex, Twins, King, Top King...
Is it possible to create a rank of these brands, taking into account price, build quality and how long they last?

I could find a Hayabysa 10oz bag glove for a little bit less than the Fairtex BGV1. How does it compare to the other MT gloves brands?
For the handwraps is there any recommendation? Mexican style, 100% cotton, 180"?
Thanks!

First off, I'd like to say how jealous I am that you're training in Brazil.

I just got the Golden gear brand of the BGV1's which is basically the same thing as the fairtex's. The BGV1's are excellent for Muay Thai and considered one of the premier if not THE premier brand of muay thai gloves. You really can't go wrong with any of the major thai brands: Fairtex, Twins, Top King, Boon, and Windy.

As you can see ECS is one of my favorite reviewers!

I'd have to say that I personally rank them:

1st: Fairtex, Boon, Top King- in now particular order
Boons and Top king I believe have some western glove influence by adding a longer cuff. My personal preference are western gloves which is why I like them more than Windy and Twins. Fairtex is a really nice compact glove with a shorter cuff that will serve you really well for MT.

2nd: Windy and Twins.
I had twins briefly, I didn't like how huge they were and sold them to a friend. I also had windy's for a brief time and didn't like the fit for some reason, its been a few years I can't really give a good breakdown of those gloves now. I sold off my windy's also.

Since I don't own Top Kings. My personal recommendation is get the Fairtex BGV1's or Boons. Get the Boons for a longer cuff and better wrist support. Get the BGV1's if you want the shorter cuff and better clinching. Either way the differences are marginal and you'd be happy with either glove.

Thanks for the reply!
I live in Curitiba, it is a very nice place to train muay thai =D
But here in Brazil to buy a decent gear we need to spend a lot more money than at US or almost any other place in the world...

I heard good things about Boons, but could not find a reasonable shipping price here to Brazil. Windy the same...

I am around 5"6' and 135 lbs... Do you have a suggestion for glove weight?
I was thinking about getting a Twins M TBGL-3F for now, to work on mitts and bag and a Fairtex BGV1 14 oz next year.
I am really confused about the glove weight, and if it would be to get a Fairtex BGV1 for punch mitt which is the best size to get?

About a shin guard, I heard good things about the Top King... Do you have any recommendations for shin guards?

One more question, which gears do I need to buy to start training serious?

Thanks!

Now I found out that there are basically three Fairtex BGV1 models, the original BGV1, the BGV1 "Tight-Fit" and the BGV1 "Tight-Fit Breathable"
Anyone knows how do they compare?
I liked the Breathable, but my only concern is about their durability...

There isn't much reviews on the BGV1 breathables yet. I just got mine yesterday so I can't really comment on the durability, but Fairtex in general has a reputation for making quality product, and I expect the same for the BGVN1 BR's.

In terms of the size, the lighter weight 10-12 oz are generally for technique and 14-18oz are for sparring. If you only want to spend on ONE all around glove get 14-16oz. If you want a dedicated pad/bag glove and you'll eventually get a dedicated sparring glove I would go for a 10-12oz glove for bag/pad.

Do you know if this one has a grip bar?
Where and how much did you pay for it?
Is there a lot of fake Fairtex gloves, at the point that I have to worry about?

Bought the Fairtex BGV1 Breathable + Tight Fit 12 oz
Hope that I did a good deal!
Well... This is not a big problem since as I am in Brazil it will be easy to sell it for a fair price :-)
Now I am looking for a shin guard and handwraps
I looked at the top king shin guard, it looks like it is a very decent one
Thanks for the help
