I am not sure how different Bavaria is, but he in the East:
be prepared to wait awhile to get internet at your apartment
dont be surprised when "unfurnished" apartment literally means there is nothing there except bare walls - no kitchen, no fridge, not even freaking lamps - just wires hanging from a ceiling
still look for an apartment long term right away - because if you move, it is 90 days notice
as someone else mentioned, stores are closed on sundays. also, most stores are closed at 8-10 (in rare cases) pm.
cant comment on the cop thing, never really had to deal with them. but you would be surprised how seldom you see them. and I havent seen a single fat cop yet.
people are really nice in general, and genuine too.

Wtf? I grew up in Germany and I assure you every home I ever stepped in had a refrigerator.
I really liked it.
I've been there a few times and it was pretty good.
Especially when I found some crazy Vietnamese guy that sold food almost at a price that I came out of the place with money from him.
His prices were retarded.
I did not even get food poisoned.
