Movie/physical media collector's thread II

Do you have the following?

American Graffiti (1973)
Aliens
Cobra
Logan's Run (1976)

I've got ALIENS on Blu-ray ( I would love to see it come out in 4K UHD ) & I've been meaning to get LOGAN'S RUN for a while now but it always slips my mind when I'm shopping for movies.

I hope it's not like T2 in terms of quality.

We still need a blu-ray copy of True Lies and The Abyss

Hard to say, I think Disney are doing all the films we havent got in UHD mainly for streaming but again I have seen it mentioned that disks will come out.

I suspect T2 being DNRed to shit may sadly have been down to Cameron who seems to loath film grain. It must have been noticed that disk hasnt sold well though, thats the difference today your dealing with a more specialist market more aware of a releases quality.

The big releases I spose are still a bit inbetween as they do target less hardcore buyers as well even on UHD and I do kind of expect them to have been messed around with a bit more as a result. The original Starwars films and LOTR for example I felt were "ok" in that respect, some DNR but not to the degree you had constant plastic faces.

Will be interesting to see how the Indy films turn out when their released in a few weeks.

Yeah, I agree. I don't like LOTR at all, but SW love it so i'm ok with the quality we got.

Cameron is busy still with Avatar sequels? ....

The main positive of Aliens of course is it means Disney is releasing old Fox titles on UHD again, more chance of Big Trouble In Little China.

I want to see Fincher's stuff on UHD....

Also, dunno if we ever talked about it, but it's just me or old gen guys prefer Cameron meanwhile Fincher stand out for new gen/ gen x?

Cameron I suspect the lack of UHD's is more because he has pretty strong control over his catalog, Fincher I am a bit supprised we havent seen Fight Club or Seven, you'd think they target the physical media market pretty well, guys in their 30's to 50's.

Yeah, but Cameron's stuff is easy to sell so dunno why he's spending every single moment on his deep sea and Avatar stuff..

I still wanna see a proper HD version of True Lies and The Abyss..

Se7en and Fight Club would improve in 4K, since you can feel they're 90s films, meanwhile his other stuff like TSN and Zodiac looks great on blu

Again the impression I get is that he's got a lot more control over his catalog than most directors, in his mind he probably wants to supervise these releases himself but never gets around to it.

His stuff isn't on Disney+ but only Amazon Prime IIRC, so that might be a reason...

Isn't he at end of his career like once Avatar is done? I think a release will probably happen after he releases the first

4...

I have faith that he can pull it off, but i think he won't reach Aliens / T1 level with em..... so we'll see, for now he has 0 misses in my book

Ironically him taking so long with them might actually work in his favour, you could argue Avatar had its fad period, then its period when it was seriously uncool and might end up being a nostalgia draw when the sequel comes out.

Who will be watching?

He's got carte blanche, from the studios... and strong consistency. even though 3D seems like a fad. Dunno, if this will make him gain or lose points as a filmaker, as this is clearly also some technocrat stuff, to improve technology alongside making the film.

I think it will be a fine film, and will gross atleast 1 Billion.

Today's new arrivals.

The top two are a couple of my favorite acquisitions ever. The German 4K UHD DOG SOLDIERS digibook was pricey but I had to get it. The same with the rare, OOP Arrow steelbook version of my favorite Dario Argento film, PHENOMENA.

this came in today

holy shit! that’s amazing. whoever that member is, you are a fucking hero & a saint.

Very interesting. I'm going to have to look those movies up as I'm not familiar with them.

And yes. I still can't believe that member did that for me. There are some very king & generous folks around here, for sure.

I been meaning to pick this up. Cool ass artwork and a movie that I watched a million times as a kid.
