I'm suggesting moving up every division under 170 up by 5 rounds. So:
155 becomes 160
145 becomes 150
135 becomes 140
125 becomes 130
115 becomes 120
105 becomes 110
plus there'd be a potential 100-pound class, probably just for women
This would populate the men's divisions more evenly. As it stands, WW and LW are by far the biggest weight classes by population, and each division contains fewer fighters as you descend in weight towards Mighty Mouse's division. My proposal would make some Welterweights drop to Lightweight, some Lightweights drop to Featherweight, some Featherweights drop to Bantamweight, and some Bantamweights drop to Flyweight. And if they ever were to institute a Men's Strawweight division, it'd be stronger at 120 than at 115.
This change wouldn't force any fighters to cut more weight than they do currently. All 155ers, 145ers, and 135ers will have the choice to either cut 5lbs less, or cut 5lbs more. 125ers will all have easier weight cuts.
And no, this has nothing to do with this guy:
