Hey guys, I am curious to where you get your mouthpiece/guards at. I found some at dicks but i was curious if anybody has a site where i can find an all white one? like wandy wears? or is there anywhere u can get your shit engrave like the fighters do? Thanks in advance.

I have a Protech that I like... I just got a kit for a Gladiator guard (http://www.customguards.com/) yesterday. I had some issues with Protech's customer service. Gladiator called me a couple hours after I placed my order to confirm a couple details. Pretty impressive.

i too am having customer service issues. I seem to be having to email or message atleast 2-3 times before i get a response at all even though it's been read. think i might just forget it. I can't be arsed to mess around with this.

www.protechmouthguards.com (Protech gaurds)
www.customguards.com (Gladiator guards)
www.smartguards.ca (Smartguards - especially good if you live in Canada)

As best I can remember, all of the companies can send impression kits or accept kits that you have already had done at a dentist. I'm pretty sure all of the companies have some type of deal for a customer who ever wants a 2nd guard (assuming they can still use the same impression). Don't quote me on that though.

I can't remember anyone's comments on the board that were negative about the actual product from any customers. Obviously there have been situations with Gladiator's reps on the board, and Protech does have/has had some problems with prompt customer service and/or turn around time (especially for more elaborate designs). I can't remember any negative comments about Smartguards for any reason.

The worst comments I can remember off hand about any custom mouthguards were that some customers felt their guard might be too tight, or too loose. But that is probably just from the unfamiliarity of using a custom mouthguard than from any problems with the actual guards themselves.

Based solely on design choices that each company displays, Smartguards' has the most crisp and clean aesthetics IMO. That's not to say either of the other companies can't produce the same effects though.

I'm unfamiliar with these problems... care to fill me in?

^^^^^^From what I've read and understood they came on here and would blast tom for no reason, OVER AND OVER, until he was finnally banned (im talking about the owner of gladiator). His attacks were pretty much that of what a 7 or 8 year old would do, something like, "my dad can beat up your dad" lol, except about mouthguards. Thats a long story short of course. And guys, you gotta be patient with Tom, he is hiring more help, but when it comes down to it, he makes everyguard and he is the only one that can answer all your questions! There is only one Tom after all. But he makes the best guards in the buisness according to nearly every review ive seen, and I cant wait to get mine. It might take awhile but it will be worth it.

How does the impression kit actually work? They send you something and you bite it and send it back or what? Can someone clear up the whole process for me?

John (The president) used to post here as icedog11. The link to the thread that caused his banning is below, but I'll try to sum it up. Tom from Protech offered a weekend deal (it was something like $30-40 off the regular price of a guard, w/ a limited color selection) without getting approval. Foz and Superbeast saw it and allowed it, then John jumped in the thread to offer his own special deal as well. Unfortunately, he escalated the situation, and it quickly got out of hand. His 2nd post in the thread he broke out the classic "I drive a better car" and then started to troll Foz on being Australian.

I try not to judge people on their "internet"-self too much, but John really buried himself, IMO. I can understand why he might have been offended or upset that Tom got away with giving Sherdog a special, but he immediately adopted the "me against the world" attitude and forgot he should have been trying to represent his company.

That was the first banning. Gladiator then had a sales rep on here who posted every once in a while, and whether it was actually the rep himself who eventually drove off the Sane Cliff, or John started posting under his name in that same thread, but that account was banned as well for once again trolling. I don't have a link for that thread though.

Here's the link to John's official banning form the boards: http://www.sherdog.net/forums/showthread.php?t=423211

It picks up around post 26. I also provide a brief history of other bans in post 74.

It's just my opinion, but that thread is when I decided to never personally support Gladiator guards. Let alone any company rep, but when the president of a company doesn't have the maturity to control himself on a MESSAGE BOARD featuring the consumer base he's actively trying to get... why on Earth would I want to give him my money? Bragging that he's richer, picking on someone for being Australian... Wow, he's cool. Not to mention that Tom in the past and Daren (or any Smartguards rep) post(ed) here more frequently with good information as well.

Gladiator is the only mouthguard company I've seen that has had bad relationships (at least publicly) with another company on either the UG or here. Granted, I haven't been on the boards nearly as long as others, so maybe someone else knows some more beef before my time. All the others not only seem to get along but have recommended other companies for the sake of customers' benefits.

That's pretty much the gist of it. I don't have a custom guard, but I've read up on them quite a bit. They'll send you a kit containing a mouthguard tray, and usually a chemical or two to mix together. Then you bite into it, let it sit and dry, then mail it back. I assume they make a mold from that, and then make your mouthguard around the teeth mold.

If you search for Tom Cold and then look through his post history, he's provided tips on the best way to bite into the tray, how long you can wait before doing so (tisk tisk Foz), etc. There's also posts explaining the difference between BnB and custom guards, and somewhere he and a forum user posted about how Shockdoctor's "$10,000 warranty" is BS.

I've trolled Foz for being Australian. It's like a rite of passage..........

You gotta understand that we're not the big market for Gladiator. They make them for EVERYONE. Like I go on to hockey boards and all they'll talk about is Gladiator.

I understand the picking on Foz part, I just can't believe someone would think it's an effective means for trying to hurtfully put someone down.

I mean, if you're gonna do that, pick on the fact that apparently Foz lacks the upper half of his head from all the pics we've seen (I think all this stuff about an injured eye is fake, to keep the trolls off his trail.)

Besides, I can't pick on Foz for being Australian because my sister actually CHOSE to go to the land down under. I mean, at least people born down there didn't have a say.

As for Gladiator's market - I understand that the mma forums might be an insignificant portion of his market, but if he didn't care and didn't actively seek those customers he wouldn't have been posting, and having other employees, posting on the forums. He wouldn't have been offering deals and getting personally offended that a forum apparently favored a different company. If he didn't give a shit about mma, that's fine. But I can't comprehend how someone who I assume has a great responsibility for his company, could be so dumb as to act like that in front of the same people he was trying to get to buy his gear.
