Hey, apologies if in wrong forum, i'm a bit of a newb to this section.

I assume everyone here trains for something or other - why did you start training? And what gives you the drive to continue to do it?

It's just something I've always struggled with. In before "lazy prick", i know i know..

I smoked 3 years and I wanted to quit. So I decided to begin with muay thai because my friend said you get crazy condition training that... I noticed it was easy to forget the cigarettes when I trained, so I trained a lot. Nowadays I'm addicted (to muay thai), and I haven't been smoking for a real long time.

to stay fit and healthy, army pt scores, and to be teh stud with teh gunz in public, oh and to abstain from smoking.

to stay away from ciggs, drugs. to get in shape and to be able to defend myself.

I started because I wanted a break from gaming once a week. Now I'm training up to 6 days per week.

I plan to compete in the future and want to be the best I can become, so I always strive to become better day for day. In training and outside.

Oh I'm a lazy prick too, but not when it comes to training.

I started cause I wanted to be stronger to be ablet to better help people. I continue cause I'm addicted.

My story isnt very original. I smoked alot of pot drank alot of beer and ate alot of pizza in high school. Then one day i sorta woke up and took my ass to the gym.

selfish enjoyment

started when some drunk went after a friend in a nightclub. wasn't anything spectacular but I enjoyed dealing with it, trained ever since

It makes me intensely happy to train, like some type of self-induced high.

I train at the gym because I get laid far more often at 6 feet and 220 pounds than I did at 6 feet and 135. I can't run a 10k anymore, but at least my priorities are correct now...

I started going to the gym and lifting weights because I've always been skinny and now I'm hooked. I used to play Dodgeball and when that I ended my girlfriend and I found a Muay Thai gym in the area and decided to try it out. We got hooked. I train for fun, the great workout and as a challenge to myself.

Overall I train because I enjoy it and I feel a lot better being healthy. Even on days when I don't feel like training I force myself to go and usually come out in a good mood.

I'm glad I'm not the only ex smoker/boozer & ummm..."etc"

This forum has the body of an Adonis & the liver of Keith Moon.

They're called endorphins, aka 'the happy chemicals'. These same effects are also released when one engages in sex.

So yeah, it does give you a natural high.

A few different reasons. I've always been a small bloke height-wise (5'4") but fairly stout.
I got picked on a lot because of it and formed a fairly solid self image of myself as a man and my 'duty' to be bloody well capable of looking after myself and my family.

That all compounds with that sheer endorphin rush of training really hard and pushing yourself to your limits.
It's a great feeling and it keeps me wanting to train more.

it keeps most girls quiet when you take off your shirt, though there is the occasional screamer. haha

Gotta add, it's not only cigarette...I've had a hedonist lifestyle...cigs, booze, fast food, lazyness...doing stupid stuff. But I've never rly felt good.

It feels good to stay healthy, challenge my own condition and trying to get better all the time. It has required, and still does, a lot of self-discipline, but I've realized that is what makes me happy.

Suffer to enjoy, I guess..

It started with a girl. Not because she asked me to train, but because of the sly little smile that gets bigger every week that I get better.

Power.

Why do I train? To feel better about myself, look good and for the challange to get stronger and faster. Oh and it helps to be in good shape for work.
