Me and origins were talking about the mythical creature known as Dan Gable in a S&C thread. That made me decide to post this link. read the entire article, you may learn some new stuff. Whenever you think you're working hard but aren't reaching your goals, chances are you aren't working hard enough.

Love reading about Gable. If your looking for more (especially his time at the olympics and as a coach afterwards) read "A Fighters Mind" by Sam Sheridan. First chapter is devoted to him.

Pretty awesome, but gotta train smart. I feel like I need an obsessive personality to reach his level.

It's funny that you say that. I actually tried finding a source to download this book for free the other night but couldn't find one online. Maybe i'll stop being cheap and just buy the damn thing. The other book "A Fighter's heart" looks interesting too.

I'm not a competitive person by nature , so maybe i just don't get it, but to me this guy has a sad sad life and his story definitely doesn't motivate me.

Sad? Why on earth would you say he had a sad life? Yes the guy was single minded and obsessive. Yes most people would not want a life like his. But the guy did everything possible to become the greatest. Perhaps the greatest combat athlete of all time.

You have to respect that motivation and drive. Also I bet Gable has no regrets for devoting his life to the pursuit of greatness.

No disrespect to Dan's accomplishments or work ethic, but Cael Sanderson's story overshadows Dan's.

He broke Iowa State alumnus Dan Gable's record of 100 consecutive wins.

4 time state champion and All region football player in HS

ONLY person ever to go undefeated in Div I wrestling winning 4 national championships.
(named one of the top 10 college sports feats ever)

He became the first freshman in NCAA tournament history to be named the NCAA Wrestling Team Championship's most outstanding wrestler.

Silver in World Championships, Gold in the Olympics, 3 Time National Freestyle champion.

Kale did it when wrestling had evolved to a much higher level and was significantly more competitive than when Dan did it. Dan deserves his due respect, but Kale is the Gold Standard when talking about all time wrestling greats.

The sad one is you. Sure Gable was a bit OCD but you have a man who pushed past mental and physical to become one of the greatest athletes of all time. The man had a drive to be the the best in the world. Gable was not the most talented or the most gifted, instead he just worked the hardest.

KILL KILL - Go out and buy both books. Well worth your money.

I definitely respect both his motivation and his drive a ton, i'd like some of those a little more myself.

But i mean winning is great if its for yourself and you can feel good about it.
I wouldnt want to live my life for other people , so this guy sort of gives up his whole life to prove something to himself?
    it's just to much imo.

I'm not saying it isn't an awesome achievement to be the best in something, but if it costs you everything? I don't know man , just not feeling it and feel sorry for him.

Cael was a stud in college, but wasn't half the international wrestler Gable was. Cael won gold. Gable DESTROYED everyone to earn it.
