Mother Teresa: Hell's Angel.

Nothing wrong with watching poor/sick people die slowly in squalor because your bs beliefs have twisted your mind into a useless lump of meat.

Her nobel speech where she named the spreading of condom use as the greatest threat to world peace, says quite a lot!
The fact that the massive donations people made to her was used mainly to found hundreds of convents in her name worldwide, while her hospice remained poor, underfunded hellholes, says a lot too.

Catholics are basically the Boko Harem, without guns and suicide bombers

Mother Teresa has done more to help others in the world than hitchens and everyone in this thread combined, grow up and spend some time with the less fortunate than yourselves and you will grow emotionally

So exactly what are these things she has done to help others?
But the catholic church did a huge media PR campaign about her, so people THINK she was this angel who helped everyone. THat is why it helps to take a look at what she ACTUALLY did.

She was kind of a fraud, if you read about her life.

You should fill us in.
A statement like that deserves qualification.

All that she did for the poor and destitute... and gets to catch flack from basement dwellers well fed on chips and soda.

She did lots of very good work however she was guided by her religion so some are going to hate her for this instead of looking at the good she did. She was not perfect by a long shot and had her own agenda but you don

I haven't finished watching the video but I've been to MT's hospice. I think you have to take it in the context of the surrounding area and not just the Western world's idea of care.

India is a shit hole in many places, Calcutta particularly so (although hardly the worst place there). Her hospice is not impressive, I personally found it disappointing. But then I went back outside and looked at the world most of those people live in and her hospice is dreamy by comparison. I was in a very nice, Western hotel looking outside at people living in shanties. When people are living in 3 wall and a roof residences, MT's hospice is like a palace. And that's now, can you imagine 30 years ago? 40 years ago?

Now, I'm not going to say much about her Catholicism since I'm not a Catholic and India is mostly Hindu and Muslim so I can't say where her views and the more dominant views of the nation align or conflict.

She's certainly not the first or only Catholic who did much for the poor.

You guys are a bit nutty here. At least Nietzsche disliked the Church for real reasons. He thought it was pulling the advancement of humanity back because it DID care and tend to the poor and destitute. But the new atheists would have you think that they never did that at all....

Emperor Julian (the Apostate) explicitly condemned his fellow pagan because it was the Christians who were taking care of their poor.... when he thought that pagans should tend to their own.

But again, you get a modern day no-nothings bashing the Church for things he mistakenly believes it never did.

Some irony in a man who discounts the very notion of morality as an objective fact bemoaning another for apparently not being moral enough.

Hitchens is a war monger, who cheerleaded the Iraq War, and never admitted he was wrong. Also pushing for an invasion of Iran till the day he died.

And this is why I'm not a fan of Hitchens. However, he does a good job of laying a verbal beat down on people who have it coming. I give him credit for that.

So you like him for name calling and polemics. He doesn't add any value to anything. Bill Hicks is an irrational nut too. Paranoid conspiracy theorist, whose intellect I have no respect for. Believing in that shit is even worse than religion imo. Religion is somewhat metaphysical, and claims truth beyond this world. Conspiracy theorists claim bullshit within it. It is similar to God. The government/illuminati is an omnipotent boogeyman that can get away with anything. Everything is by design.

Possible, but Hitchens has enlightened many, many people who believed in magic sky men and other fairy tails to actually think with their brain and not their heart.

Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Cris Di Carlo, and David Silverman other examples of this.

He gave people low hanging fruit, as that is all they can reach. Guys like Dawkins and Harris put out embarrassingly sophomoric philosophy. I would be ashamed to admit they "enlighten" me.
