Before anyone says it, Chad Mendes vs Cody McKenzie is one of the most bizarre matches the UFC ever put together. Nothing about it made any sense given the position they were both at. Will also say Stephan Struve vs Pat Barry for the pure freak show aspect of it. I know there's so many more.

I think a lot of WTF matchmaking comes from guys dropping out at the last minute - Mendes v McKenzie is a prime example. From recollection, Mendes' opponent pulled out about a week before the fight and McKenzie was the only one willing to go against him.

that mendes fight was a fucking crazy mismatch for sure. Not even an injury replacement.

I dunno if it was wtf as much as transparent but "punishing Kelvin by having him fight Nate for one fight was lame.

At least people want to see that one.

For legitimate WTF, look no further than Bader v Hippo. Perosh requested that fight. Legitimate what the f*ck were you thinking, Hippo?

I think it was Tony Furgeson v a Japanese fighter with a weird stance.

Thats what annoys me with this cm punk crap. Who wants to see a famous dude that sucks vs a nodoby that sucks on a UFC card?

Make a freak show fight and put punk against fucking hendricks or something so we can all have a good laugh.

Sean Shelby actually did an in-depth interview on everything that goes in to his (and Joe Silva's) job and shed some light on how that fight came to be.

Akiyama losing his way up the middleweight ladder also comes to mind.

Gleison Tibau vs. Caol Uno was just cruel.

You're thinking of Mendes' scheduled fight after McKenzie. He was scheduled to face Hacran Dias at the TUF Aussie finale but Dias pulled out a week or two before the fight and was replaced by Yaotzin Meza. Unfortunately Mendes was set to face McKenzie from the get-go of his announced UFC 148 fight.

Article said McKenzie replaced Bart Palazewski. I don't remember that but I don't see why they'd lie about it

That was Katsuniro Kikuno, he is a badass, watch some of his fights/highlights on youtube if you like Karate and want to be entertained.

    Check out his fight with Andre "Dida" Amade;
And Dida is a guy who went toe-to-toe with Buakaw in K1, and was Sakuraba's protege during the Chuteraba days; sadly only known by newer fans as that guy who punched Chael Sonnen in the face during the Wand brawl and got banned from coaching in TUF (he was Wand striking Coach during that season, and was also Shogun's striking coach in general)

I had high hopes for him coming to the UFC, sadly that didn't go so well... :icon_conf

    I'm going with Cormier/Gus.

Gus got beaten to tears at home in his last fight. I do not think that a fighter has ever gotten a title shot after such a devastating loss.

I know there are others. Less competitive fights. but as far as WTF?...

How the fuck did Gus get that lucky. Putting Bader in would've been better sdurely
