imo the most underrated training or more sothe most underrated thing to train is hip strength and movement.

hip training helps greatly in grappling and striking

in grapping it helps sweps from bottom, control from the top and td def/off. from the clinch.

in strking it helps punching and kicking power as well as head movement

does anyone here know of any really good hip training techniques or methods?

Umm...squating? Deadlifting? I'm pretty sure anyone who has a clue about training recognizes that hips are the key to power and speed.

Ways to train the hips...hmm... no can't think of a thing. Amazing that we don't have anything that might help develop strength in the hips in the FAQ at the top of the board.

squats works out ur thighs more than anything and dead lifts workout ur lower back.

i'm talking about specific hip training. i've seen wrestlers do some trainings for the hips but i dont know what its called. have u ever chopped a some trees with an axe? that is a great method but its not something many ppl have access to. i'm talkin more about twist motion hip training if u know what i mean

If you are talking about torso rotation, that is generally regarded as being your "core", as the motion comes from mainly the obliques. There's lots of stuff about core exercises around here.

hip heights? looks like breakdancing? but yeah, that's more for mobility and speed rather than strength (if that's what you're talking about). good stuff.

You do understand what COMPOUND LIFTS are don't you? I've never trained my hips exclusively, and I can guarantee that I can pop Rosie O' Donnell off of me while in the missionary position (she has a false penis).

Now that I think about it more, Arthur Saxon had a badass core...mostly due to his feats of putting shit over his head in varying ways.

Um, no. Just no. Hip extension is the major contributor of force in both lifts. Quads do knee extension, lower back does spinal extension, neither of which are the prime movers in back squats or deadlifts.

"and when your done just hang it here..."

Back on topic,

I haven't been to Corpus in years! I was actually born in Harlingen and raised in Houston, so was always pretty close. Water still all fucked up from Spring Breakers?

why did nobody call this guy out for calling deadlifts a lowerback exercise? that's bodybuilder talk. the big issue with bodybuliding programmes is where to put the deadlift? is it a back exercise? a leg exercise? Oh Noes!

I used to do those humping exercises that Saxon is doing there. I'd put a heavy sandbag on my stomach and buck away. For BJJ it was great (along with sandbag cleans for rounds) for escaping being mounted. I used to let guys mount me just so I could reverse and end up in their guard.

ah...selfpwnage

*puts on rickdogs daisy dukes for Lusst*

corpus has stayed the same for the most part of the ast 10 yrs. they did just rebuild packery channel on he jp luby beach. better fishing and surfing in that area now.

as far as spring break there is a lot of cops everywhere during that time. to many ppl got shot or stabbed and a riot broke out in 01. only ghetto ppl stay for spring break now. most ppl go to south padre or other places.

sea sculptures is awsome though better than spring break

at the end of a workout, find a brick/concrete/support wall and a moderately heavy medicine ball--get in loaded or half squat position and push the ball at the wall-- catching it and returning it has fast as you can. DO the same thing standing sideways, throwing the ball at the wall while turning your hips (carry the ball in an underhand position with both hands), once again catch and return as fast as you can. Switch sides. You can also throw the ball straight up, from a crouched position, catch and return. All of these motions help with explosive movement, once you have a good strength base (squats, deadlifts and so on) these can really help train your muscles for quick reaction. Mix OLY lifts in as well. bla bla bla
