Most underrated champs in UFC history

Personally I think Weidman is underrated as fuck. Ppl hat him bc he won on a fluke ko and a fluke leg break but then defended 2x. He's shot now but at that run he had to the title and with it was great.
Prime Weidman is a very underrated fighter.
The Weidman that destroyed Machida would be a problem to any MW ever, imo that was his prime
For me it's Weidman and it's not even close. Prime Weidman was a beast.

Underrated
HW- Tim Sylvia
LHW- Shogun
MW- Rich Franklin(If Anderson wasn't around he would have become the biggest star in the UFC imo)
WW- Lawler(he fought all the guys GSP didnt want to fight during his streak)
LW- Frankie Edgar

idc abt small guys
Lawler????? He fought during his reign guys GSP didn't want to fight???? Condit? Hendricks? Rory his training partner?

Do you know what the Halo Effect is? Hendricks isn't getting dominated like everyone else GSP fought. He must be winning.

Break down how you scored the fight.

Simply put the 3rd and 5th there is no argument were GSP's. 2nd and 4th were for Hendricks. The 3 judges unanimously scored these 4 rounds. The first was the deciding round.

Round 1 was 19-18 in significant strikes for GSP. 27-26 in total strikes for Hendricks. Both had 1 TD each. GSP had one submission attempt Johny zero. Close round that coiuld go either way. Johny shouldn't get extra credit for doing better than all the others who lost before him. I believe if you watched that fight on a computer played out with Random avatars like a video game and scored it you would see it as a close fight that could go either way.

GSP outstruck Hendricks overall, 4 of the rounds were within 5 strikes or less but the one other round GSP outstruck Hendricks 31-15 in significant strikes. More than double but that was a 10-9 like all the other razor close rounds? In order to be the man you gotta Beat the Man and Johnny failed to do that.

MW....Weidman
LHW....Jan Blachowicz (2.0 Jan beats current Jon Jones), it's why Jon ran away from LHW.

Good thread idea, dumb opening list

HW- yeah Big Tim
LHW- forest Griffin. Guy was goofy and after he lost the belt he got demolished by Silva. But he was a very good champ during LHWs golden age
MW- Robert Whittaker? Had the belt briefly. If Izzy didn’t exist I think he’d have 4 defenses by now. Highest skilled non champ in the ufc right now imo. Maybe tied with Halloway
WW- Woodley. He fell off hard, but he defended 4 times and gets 0 respect for it
LW- Benson Henderson. His attitude rubbed people the wrong way and the splits were funny, but he had wins over prime Frankie Edgar. Pettis is just his kryptonite
FW- Volkanovski. This dude cannot get any respect even with beating Max twice. Hopefully the fight with Ortega finally gets him what he deserves
BW- Barao- destroyed everyone he faced until it was TJ on EPO
Fly- Mighty Mouse never get any damn respect. To the point the UFC traded him away for Ben Askren lol

Women’s divisions haven’t been around long enough to properly gauge which champs are over or underrated

I agree on this post 100%, so glad to read that kind of thing. Thanks.

He defended against these old Brazilians past their primes. Weidman wasn't a great champion ever.

Silva, machida and Belfort were not past their prime yet when Weidman beat them. He was also doing fine against rockhold untill that stupid kick he threw. His problem was gassing. He was beating Romero until the 3rd as well.

Except for Sylvia, most of the guys you mentioned are overrated, not underrated. Especially Lawler.

Current champs don’t get enough recognition though. Volkanovski, Usman and Jan are greatly underrated

If you think post USADA Belfort who had lost 30 lbs of muscle when he fought Weidman was still in his prime... there's no point in talking further about this...
