I saw a UFC post on the anniversary of Usman’s win over Woodley at UFC 235 to claim the WW title. I forgot exactly how dominant that performance was so I went over to MMA Decisions to check out the scorecards and they were nothing too crazy (50-45, 50-44, 50-44) but when I looked at the media scores I found:

    50-44 (6x)
    50-43 (8x)
    50-42 (10x)
    50-41 (1x)
    50-39 (1x)

Considering the one-sided nature of the bout do you think the psychological trauma of being publicly beaten and dominated has been a major reason for Woodley’s notable decline recently?

The previous best example of this was Rich Franklin’s horrific beat down of David Loiseau — who never won another fight in the UFC. Herb Dean’s late stoppage of the Luke Rockhold vs Chris Weidman fight might qualify as well.

Any other examples I am missing?

I don't think so. Woodley got figured out basically, Rory was the first to show the blueprint to beat him, and Kamaru perfected it. His age and milieage did the rest.

Ngannou gassing out and losing to Stipe traumatized him imo that he was gun shy and visibly conserving his energy vs Derrick Lewis. He lost and it was one of the most disappointing fights ever.

He made up for it though big time finising opponents in seconds and got another shot at Stipe.

GSP became a new man after being beaten by Matt Serra.

He came back with a vengeance and then absolutly destroyed Finch in a fight as one-sided as a fight can be, but he never got back that killer instinct (until he put his hands on Bisping)

In terms of losses that seemed to propel a fighter into decline, Barao vs. Dillashaw, Condit vs. Lawler, Dos Santos vs. Velasquez, and CroCop vs. Gonzaga are high profile ones.

I seem to recall Diego Sanchez saying in an interview that his loss to Penn had traumatized him.

Terry Etim apparently tried to kill himself after he stopped fighting, but he retired on a win, so who knows.

    Holm v Rousey of course.

but I disagree about Woodley. Woodley was already broken by the time Usman got to him. Woodley has almost always had the habit of becoming totally gun-shy when faced with any adversity whatsoever. If he eats one punch he abandons offense and begins keeping himself backed against the cage winging the single occasional punch
