Most of you belong to the Oregon Trail Generation

xennials.png

LOL at this chart, they have 5 years of X'rs and only two years of Millennials. AND they misspelled Millennials.

LOL they're called Gen Z or the iGeneration

I wonder how many Gen Z posters we have here now (born after 2004). I don't want to have start hiding my tide pods.
Gen Z starts around 1998-2000 but probably not as many as you'd think since they are all on Reddit or Discord if even that.

I'm 26 and am probably young relative to the general Sherpopulace (especially outside of the Heavies) but then whenever age gets brought up on any of the Discord servers I'm on I suddenly feel like a fossil

I really don't understand the appeal of Reddit. That board is hard to follow and ugly as shit.

I like that there is a subreddit for just about anything, which makes it easy to find information if you have a question about a topic. Decent for news about video games if you follow the games' subs too.

The UI is so hilariously shit tho I do agree with that; I only go there every now and then if I'm really bored or have a specific thing I'm trying to figure out (kinda like Facebook nowadays tbh).

Maybe for you white people. Minorities had stricter parents in the 90s.
My parents were far stricter than any minority kids I knew by far. I'm part minority too btw.

Depends on the minority group but some had a similar upbringing to me. Particularly Mexicans. Other minority groups who's kids I encountered were the most spoiled kids I ever met in my life.

I remember trying to download wwe wrestlemania with orton mysterio and angle with limewire

Instead got porn and was disappointed

i was born in 90 & pretty much all of these things apply to me. shrug.
It depends on where you are from and your level of computer/internet access.

My year in the schools I went through was the last year to not have the computer lab upgrades the kids younger than me got.

it also depends on your parents level of forward thinking.

To my parents a computer was considered a work tool for professionals until about 1998 when they realized everyone needed one.

Even then computers and the internet was a place for the kids that were less emerged in MTV culture.

Kids who's Parents were early Gen Xers had parents who typically didn't fight in WW2 as they were too young and they were too young to really feel the full brunt of the Depravity of the Depression as well. Their Grandparents grew up in the golden years post WW2 abundance and were untainted by battle. Their Kids inherited the mentality of the post civil rights movement and were untainted by that battle as well. Those are the kids that are typically associated with Millenials. Their descendents didn't absorb the full force of the Traumas of the past but they received the benefits from those that did.

Disney is fucking up my world and has started filing complaints about every damn torrent I download. Arghh

You were probably from an upper-middle class household. Most of America did not have a PC yet in the mid 90's, but the wealthier suburbs did. By the late 90's it became commonplace. It was a really drastic and rapid change. Kinda like what Nirvana did to MTV.

Zork is so old school it didn't even have graphics.

It took a while longer for online gaming to be accessible to the masses. I remember me and my friends trying to connect via modem to play Doom and couldn't figure it out lol. That was cumbersome until Blizzard came out with battle.net.

Yep doom and quake were my jam in the day.

I played doom before it was released over at my uncles house. He lived in Dallas when Id was there and knew them somehow , he worked at TI. It was only M1E1 when he showed it too me. Nothing else.

And I’ve been hooked since.

there is a HUGE difference between some tech geek working in silicon valley, as opposed to a poor chinese farmer somewhere in the middle of nowhere. that quote above is fantasy bullshit. we're different people, both in terms of race, and in terms of where we were born, and how we grew up. it's better to realize the differences, and work on finding commonality to bring us closer as humans.
I think the point is that the differences between people have less to do with what color their skin is and more to do with other circumstances. Though our constant need to dice each other up into different groups, and treat each group accordingly results in people of certain colors having common experiences, you may find you have more in common genetically with people who look different than you do, or that you have similar interests to those of people who look different than you do. Whereas people who look like you may not share your interests or be as similar genetically.
