Its about a man Leonard Lowe (played by Robert De Niro) suffering from Encephalitis Lethargica he was like in a state of coma for decades since he was a kid, until a doctor administer a drug that made him wake up and realized that he is now a grown man,

He met a woman named Paula (Penelope Ann Miller) and they fell in love to each other,however the effect of the medicine is only temporary and he is beginning to show symptoms once again.

Plague by seizures all day the doctors have realized that he will be back in a catatonic state within a few days knowing this Leonard visits Paula one last time saying that they wont see each other again since he will be back to being catatonic.

Then this music is played.
