Most interim titles during a Champ’s tenure

Gaethje is the second fighter to hold the interim LW title since Khabib beat Iaquinta for the vacant belt in 2018. Has any champ had more interim champions during their reign without having it stripped or lost?

Not multiple champs but: Barao not only won an interim title, but even defended it twice while Cruz was out. 3 interim fights under 1 reign.

That was such a stupid situation. So Randy beats Sylvia for the belt March '07, defends against Gonaza Aug '08. So far so good. Suddenly, come Oct, Randy wants to quit and Dana is adamant he won't be released and is still the champion, but goes ahead and books Nog-Sylvia for the interim belt in Feb '08 anyway, and it's the same event where Mir taps Brock. So Mir gets booked in May '08 to do TUF across from Nog, and to fight him for the interim title in Dec '08, but in the meantime, Dana sneaks in Brock to fight for the real title against Randy in Nov '08, ahead of a unified fight with the interim champ Nog, and Mir who just beat Brock. Brock and Mir win, then Brock takes his strawberries back in July '09, unified champ. But he ate too many and got a hole in his stomach, so Big Dan lets Carwin kill Mir five times in March '10 for another interim title, and finally the belts get unified again in July '10.

And then the heavyweight division never had an Interim Champion again.
