That's essentially what MK9 was, with updated graphics and gameplay.

There was a team making legit remakes and Ed Boon was pushing for them but Warner Bros pulled the plug because they didn't trust these guys experience level. You can see screen shots of what they did so far in this thread.

Those were the worst, especially Rains. At least the person/people who made this created some better fatalities. It's nice when you do a decapitation fatality and the victim's body isn't still standing in the dizzy pose, lol. Cyrax and Sektor's fatalities from MK9 look pretty good here too, imo.
