This is the best analysis I’ve seen so far of what happened on Saturday.

This wasn’t a case of Conor going downhill, it wss the top of the game moving past him.

He hasn’t changed all that much from the guy who won the LW title, but he’s facing very different opponents in the top of that division now.

When you’re talking about calf kicks like it’s something you’ve never seen or felt before then something ain’t right.

Conor would have to make huge adjustments to his style in order to compete at 155, doubtful he will do that.

No, just reality catching up with him

He previously won some good fights and was handed some favourable occasions as well

He never truly set the bar for anything other than god level attention whoring and social media domination of a dumbed down crowd

Good on him for raping those peoples' minds and wallets

he lost a very competitive fight to an elite fighter.

Haters will say its because hes washed up and fans will make excuses. But the reality is that Conor is a championship level fighter, but he's not a legend of the sport. He's world class, but not the best we'll ever see in any division, not even top 5.

And there's no shame in that.

He seemed to have the same attacks and he was also repeating the same combinations over and over again.
Definitely seems like he hasn't evolved as much as he should have.
Also, instead of loading power shots he could use some more peppering style, be more in and out as he was before.
He seemed stiff as a board and as a consequence he was snapped in half (anyone?).
Bring back IDO.
Also: seemed a bit slow too.

No. But Poirier shown Conor McGregor he can no longer get away with just getting out of the danger zone and must do more to avoid damage in exchanges.

He looks awful with the bald head. So can fix that anyways for his next fight.

'But But But the Conor against Alvarez. It was the best mma performance in history'.

These are the lines of 'journalists'.

'If the Conor of Alvarez shows up.'

I can't stop laughing when I hear or read such statements.

If Conor wins it was because of him. If his opponent win it comes because Conor didn't show up
Well Alvarez didn't show up either.

Bull shit. Conor has faced a ton of top dogs who all could have beaten him. Max and dustin at 145? Chad and aldo? Eddie (cardio, grit, mixed style) nate (cardio, chin, size, etc) and khabib, of course...

Obvious failure to adapt from a previously creative fighter

The fight was competitive. People usually fall when Conor hits them clean, Dustin himself said Conor had him rocked in the 1st round. if you can take the shots Conor can be beat but unless you're a freak grappler like Khabib you are going to have to take some McGregor punches in order to win and most people simply can't.

It would not shock me at all if Conor wears that belt again before he is done.

Yes and it was inevitable considering he fought in MMA 4 times in the last 3 years. That’s a weak ass fighting schedule. That said, he would have also lost fights had he kept fighting 2-3 times a year after he son’d Eddie. No version of Conor would beat Khabib and many other fighters would have tried to exploit his weak conditioning. Also, he will refuse to leave SBG and Irish Edmund, which means that he won’t evolve.

His best bet is to get Diego or some other beatable guy and walk away from MMA.

He did set the bar. He defeated Max Holloway, Dustin Poirier, Eddie Alvarez, Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes quite spectacularly. Yeah, he was defeated by Khabib and Dustin in a rematch. So what? If he was just an overrated fighter who got a lot of attention, then you are basically saying the lightweight division lacks talent and Khabib's records are padded. Why? Win over McGregor is often cited as Khabib's most significant win.

His confidence and aura definitely don't seem as imposing as they once did. I wonder if that's part of why he has this "good guy" act pre-fight now. He was so confident before and that coincided with his douche/cocky persona, but man did he have a presence when he was in the octagon. The presence doesn't seem to be there anymore.

Agreed, but he is definitely a legend.

For someone who wasn't even aware of a calf kick, how to defend one and the damage it can cause, he had no place in MMA in the first place.

He just showed his knowledge, and how lucky his run an wins really was

Agreed, but he is definitely a legend.

in terms of drawing power and fandom sure, not in terms of skills IMO.

Depends what you consider a legend I suppose. I meant more that hes not a GOAT.
