I don't know if they would be or not, but I'm fairly certain that our reaction to them would be hostile. I feel like it would be very similar to Columbus' reaction to Native Americans. Kill it first and then find out what it's about. The difference likely being who has more advanced weapons and tactics.

We will be the aztecs in that scenario. If we are discovered and reached by an interstellar civilization, we are totally screwed.

There is, of course, also the possibility that light-speed limits cannot be overcome which is why we don't have interstellar civilizations whirling around at light-speeds.

Our best option if we encounter aliens is to prepare all Nuclear Weapons on earth to destroy the earth in response to the invasion to deprive said aliens of any resource they could have gained from eliminating us.

I'm sure they can go lightspeed. They just can't go faster.

Being able to go light speed would imply the ability to also go faster as there are already particles that go faster than light. The solution to the problem would lie in reducing the mass of the object as it travels equal to the rate at which the mass is gained. This would counter the "block" and enable "warp speed."

I 100% believe there are extraterrestrial civilizations, some which are far more advanced than us. I also believe most civilizations don't last very long on a cosmic scale. Civilizations, especially advanced ones, probably deplete their planet of resources before discovering the solution to light speed.

I 100% believe that there is other intelligent life in our galaxy. That being said, imagine if we were the most advanced civilisation in our galaxy, or better yet, if there was an equally advanced civilisation in our neighbourhood, close enough that we could communicate decades before being able to reach eachother.

Yeah, but the things that go faster than light are about the size of quarks. Maybe smaller. Moving a spaceship of considerable size FTL seems unlikely. But shit, they probably can. Which means they'll have shields that can probably tank a nuke.

    Our bacteria will kill them!

Hopefully space travel is a thing before I die, or I'll be pissed.

Aliens would crush us so easily.

There is a million ways an advanced species could destroy us like ants.

Then it would be at least a 4+ year journey to reach earth, as that's how many light years away the nearest star is. I'm sure you'd have to go much further still to get to a candidate for intelligent life.

I wouldn't expect an alien invasion/visit, ever. They'd have to be some super advanced, nomadic civilization, or have a lifespan ridiculous enough to warrant such a long trip.

I read that with our current technology it would take us 70,000 years to reach our nearest star. Our Galaxy is just too vast.

Considering humans with just a different color cannot sometimes get along.

Do your really think there will be peace between us and ANOTHER SPECIES?

True, but just think... Do you go around crushing every ant you see?

Maybe the fact that we haven't met any aliens yet is proof of our own insignificance rather than their non-existence.

I don't think there are intelligent aliens. Maybe there are dinosaur type aliens but that's all. I think human type life is extremely rare, intelligence of our kind is not required for survival, so why do we assume other species would evolve intelligence? Luck brought humanity into existence, and our bizzare way of shaping the natural world around us to fit our needs is a trait that could easily never pop up on another planet, even in a universe teeming with forms of life.
