Monica Cigar Stuffer whines about consent

She’s running out of attention and money?

Thread title doesn't fit the story.

I am in awe of the sheer courage of the women who have stood up and begun to confront entrenched beliefs and institutions. But as for me, my history, and how I fit in personally? I'm sorry to say I don't have a definitive answer yet on the meaning of all of the events that led to the 1998 investigation; I am unpacking and reprocessing what happened to me.

Doesn't sound like whining and doesn't sound unreasonable.

She has no case.
None.
For her to speak of reprocessing what happened to me is pathetic and a slap in the face of actual victims.
Nothing happened to her .

Yeah man.

It's totally normal and fine for the most powerful man in the world to pursue a sexual relationship with a 21 year old intern.

And if somebody asks her about her feelings on what went down she should shut her whore face.

One doesn’t need to defend Bill Clinton to hold ML accountable for her part in that episode.

Yah man, this grown woman had no agency and in retrospect she couldn't have made any other choice.

"What would you like me to do?"

"Could you jam a panatella into your nasty pud-box?"

"Why, that's an affront to my dignity! Good day, sir!"

Oh wait, she didn't say that last bit

She laid on the floor and used a cigar as a masturbation device against her will because, um, she... didn't have a choice...

Sorry, not by buying what she's selling

I was in college when this scandal hit the news.

During this time a popular married professor was sleeping with a 21 year old student of his.

He was fired for that.

Nice strawman.

You pretending that power dynamics don't exist doesn't make them not exist.

This a 21 year old chick who was pursued by the most powerful man in the world.

She has been vilified for it by both sides of the aisle for no good reason.

Did she accuse Clinton of abusing her? No

She never attacked him in any court of law or the media. The GOP and the media unwillingly drug her through mud to try and bring down Clinton.

But now you're trying to drag her down even further because she was asked a question and she's reflecting on what happened and how power dynamics can shape a relationship? Pathetic

I'm sure if this was a family member of yours you'd be telling her to shut her whore mouth.

So you're saying you'd probably let Oprah jam cigars up your ass if you worked for her? AFAIK, Bill Clinton didn't threaten her in any way.

we have to allow adults to be adults and particularly women without imposing a patriarchal protectionism that treats them as children.

Yes some women will be attracted to power and chase powerful men. AND THAT IS OK. It has to be OK or women are in a bad spot. Yes some of those men may even be married. Yes men, even some married ones will respond to that.

It CANNOT only be ok if a mutually positively regarded relationship comes of it (as many do) but abuse if it does not because of the power imbalance, as commonly in these situations there is always a power imbalance.

Is there any tenable situation where we simply state to women you cannot chase powerful at all or to men you can only engage if the relationship works out? Because otherwise everything becomes abuse when it does not.

These are adult women and men and creating 'Victims' in these mutual consent scenarios via a reconsidering of the past is absolute folly.

Agreed.

Regardless of your beliefs on the merits of her reconsideration, it is inaccurate to describe the quotes in that story as whining (she's not even taking a position, much less taking one in the kind of strident tone that could be fairly portrayed as "whining"), and presenting it that way does more to stifle discussion that cause reflection that could lead to people accepting your point of view.

Secondarily, I think she's obviously right to reconsider.

How do you correct for "power dynamic" though?

They exist all the time, particularly in work based relationships. So if Bill had left his wife and married the young Monica would it have been abuse and would Monica have seemed un-consenting?

Does it only become abuse and un-consenting when the woman is unhappy with the result?

lol something can be immoral and uncouth without creating victim in the eyes of the law.

Call me crazy but anytime I see a middle aged man with a 20 year old chick I know that dude is a fucking creep who I wouldn;t hang out with.

Same goes for American guys who travel to southeast Asia to find wives. If you have to travel to the poorest countries in the world to find a bride you're probably a piece of shit with low moral character.

If you find yourself banging an intern less than half your age you're probably a piece of shit.

And yeah I don't hold the women on the wrong side of the power dynamic to be on an even playing field

Ahh so you are the type to preach from the alter. Makes sense.

For the record I too find what you say creepy but I am not going to decide others morals for them. If a young woman wants to chase an older man in power than that is her prerogative as long as she is an adult. I am not going to sit around judging her or him for responding and I am certainly not going to want to a create a victim class because it is not my thing and I personally find it creepy.

that is a big problem in our society today in that you have people who think that because they do not like something there is something wrong with others liking it. If they are consenting adults then it simply is not my business and I won't preaching from the pulpit like you on it.
