I became a teen in 2000 and graded from high school in 2005. During my time, people valued toughness, brawn and being jacked. Not to mention knowing how to fight and also keeping it "gangsta" as my youth culture put it. So when MMA blew up in the mid 2000s, every young man wanted to be a UFC fighter for the status, glory and respect.

Now fast forward to 2023 and I talked to few teens and they are not in to football or combat sports. Almost every single one of them wants to be an entrepreneur of sorts or have their own law firm. I ask them if they want to be fighters and they responded with "What's the point!? Take damage life long injuries, terrible pay and be forgotten in 3 weeks? Where is the ROI in that?"

I was taken back and I also noticed MMA gym marketing is more about fitness as oppose to the whole become a gladiator.

Of course fighters will exist because of wrestlers looking for an outlet to compete. But it seems like no one really gives a shit about the prestige and honor of being an MMA fighter no more!

Is this like this in your hometown?

It will always take an individual with a certain type of temperament to consistently engage in an activity that is fundamentally inflicting damage on another human being.

Not inherently bad people, of course not, but possess an almost apathetic mentality, or can at least compartmentalise what they are pursuing in such a way that avoids inherently what the consequences are. I think every generation has people of this disposition - regardless of social influence.

How did you counter that one?

The younger generation is too busy trying to figure out what gender they are.

Some dude changed his gender or his gender identity during divorce court because no mercy for men in court of law.

I identify as UFC HW champion

Who is the super sexy man in your avatar?

Youth were already pussies by 2000. Sorry to inform you. Double LOL at your mention of how you "kept it gangsta." Good lord, you're a loser.

I was talking about my youth culture you fucking dork. Too bad you cant read for shit.

My God, I guess some kids are getting smarter!

Why would you willingly dabble in a sport where one of the prominent figures in the biggest org called "an opportunity" and not a career? Hell, being an athlete sucks even putting aside how unlikely it is you achieve success, dudes get shit ton of cash yet blow through it all after the paychecks stop.

How did you counter that one?

No counter, it was a solid point and was very impressed that the youth of today are not brain dead like my generation. The MMA series kingdom showed that the life of an MMA fighter is pretty goddamn tragic.

Boxing can be bad as well but its been around for far too long and we know what to expect from a retired boxer.

Only dumbasses and insecure loser wannabe tough guys want to be fighters. There's no glory in being Dana White's bitch. MMA fighter's are some of the most pathetic people on the planet. Look at how many of them cry about money and can't do anything about it.

Something about legacy.

I did not, it was far too solid of a point. Well spoken, expressed logically and also legacy is kind of bullshit. What is the point of legacy when you are forgotten in like few weeks. Your replacements are around the corner.

Pro fighting makes sense if you have like an established business and you also happen to be a insanely amazing fighter and you can use fighting as marketing. Gokor and Judo Gene Lebell ( rip) used MMA as a marketing platform. Being a champ or having a legacy meant fuck all to them. George Foreman was smart because he wasnt fighting just for legacy, he started a business and used fighting to monetize it.

I hate to say it, but I kind of agree.

I’m only a couple of years younger than you, but when I was a kid, being tough and knowing how to fight were very important. However, I recently dated a woman with a seven year old son. I tried to teach him how to punch, but he had no interest, and instead just wanted to play Minecraft all day. Many of my friends have kids, and they all say they can relate.

Kids today are just different, I guess.
