Wes Ball to Direct Fox's Norse Mythology Epic FALL OF GODS

Fall-of-Gods-Art-082515-Dragonlord.jpg

Twentieth Century Fox is teaming up with Wes Ball, the director of its YA franchise The Maze Runner, for an epic Norse fantasy. The studio has picked up the rights to Fall of Gods, a crowdfunded illustrated novel from Denmark-based Mood Studios.

Mood’s concept designer, Rasmus Berggreen, ran point on the book project and teamed up with Michael Vogt, the lead writer of the Hitman video game, with the intent to bring back a more Scandinavian stamp on Norse mythology.

The story, according to its Kickstarter funding page, is set in a realm with two races, humans and the jotnar, and centers on a warrior named Vali who found peace in the arms of a woman:

“For years he has lived far from society, tending to his farm and trying to forget the battles he fought…and the crimes he committed. But one day his love disappears, and he must set out to find her. He will once again have to face the creatures of Jotunheim and the powerful Aesir. Suddenly, the man he thought he had buried deep down inside has risen to the surface once more...and he comes seeking vengeance."

Ball is one of the town’s rising directors and Fox is intent on keeping him in the studio fold. He made a splash with his sci-fi short Ruin and then made his feature directing debut with 2014’s The Maze Runner, the adaptation of James Dashner’s post-apocalyptic YA novel. The sequel, Maze Runner: Scorch Trials, opens Sept. 18.

Kylo Ren is Not a Sith and Other New Details for STAR WARS 7

Kylo-Ren-082515-Dragonlord.jpg

New details about Adam Driver‘s Kylo Ren, the presumed lead villain of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, are revealed in the latest issue of Empire. While we’ve already learned that Kylo Ren is obsessed, in his way, with Darth Vader, and that his mask and general appearance are a nod to that character, director J.J. Abrams confirms in the story that Driver’s character “is not a Sith.” Abrams goes onto say, “[Kylo Ren] works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.”

Snoke is a performance-captured digital character, played and voiced by the great Andy Serkis. We’ve yet to get a full gander at the character yet but anticipation is understandably high to see how he’s designed, especially as this news confirms that he’s essentially the new Emperor for Abrams’ film. And speaking of the Dark Side characters, the filmmaker also likened the aforementioned First Order to the Nazis, if they had reunited after fleeing to Argentina. Here’s his exact quote:

“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again? What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”

Rumor: Next BLADE Movie Will Be Based on Blade's Daughter

Blade-082515-Dragonlord.jpg

The newly to-be-relaunched Blade comic featuring the daughter of Blade, Fallon Grey, has been delayed. Bleeding Cool understands from well-connected sources that this is due to careful concern from up above the food chain, that the character and the comic are suddenly considered extremely important by the bean counters, and the multi-media folk.

Because the rumored plan is that this new Blade will be the one that will be featured in the next Blade movie, according to Bleeding Cool.

There has been much talk of new Blade films, given the more recent success of many more Marvel movies, and that the rights had returned to Marvel. And Wesley Snipes has been in talk about returning to the character with Marvel.

“Blade’s daughter is 16-year-old Fallon Grey,” series writer Tim Seeley revealed at Comic-Con. “She’s a sort of ‘anti-Peter Parker.’ She’s popular, she’s well-liked and it seems like the world is her oyster. But, the expectations that come with being so damn perfect are starting to break her down, and that’s before she learns she’s the heir to a Daywalking-Monster-Stabbing-Empire.”

Gabriel Chavarria Joins WAR OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

Gabriel-Chavarria-War-of-the-Apes-Dragonlord.jpg

Gabriel Chavarria, who plays one of the leads in Universal’s upcoming drama Low Riders, is in early talks to nab a key role in Fox’s latest Planet of the Apes installment. Matt Reeves, who directed 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, has returned as the director for the new project, which has the working title War of the Planet of the Apes. Mark Bomback also is back as screenwriter and Chernin Entertainment as the producer.

It is unclear who is returning to the new movie, which will continue the story of Caesar, the evolved ape who is brought to life via motion capture by Andy Serkis. Chavarria’s first role was a part in Freedom Writers, the 2007 Hilary Swank drama. A few TV appearances and a part in A Better Life, the Chris Weitz drama that starred Demian Bichir, followed.

The actor is a series regular on Hulu’s East Los High and earlier this year nabbed a starring role in Low Riders, the drama from Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions and Imagine Entertainment. The movie could act as a feature breakthrough when it is released in 2016, but it is clearly opening doors for Chavarria

STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON Actor Joins KONG: SKULL ISLAND

Jason-Mitchell-Kong-Skull-Island-Dragonlord.jpg

Jason Mitchell, the young actor making a breakout with his portrayal of rapper Eazy-E in Straight Outta Compton, is in negotiations to join the cast of Legendary’s Kong: Skull Island. The move will reunite him with Corey Hawkins, his Compton co-star (he played Dr. Dre) who is already cast in the monster movie.

Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and Toby Kebbell are also already on the manifest of the ship that takes a crew of explorers to the mysterious, creature-laden isle that is also the home of Kong, the king of the apes. Insiders say that Mitchell will play an easy going pilot.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts is directing the big-budget project, which last week brought on screenwriter Derek Connolly for rewrites as it heads toward a late-October production start in Hawaii. The movie is scheduled for a March 10, 2017, release.

Mitchell is currently shooting Keanu, the New Line comedy from Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, and will be seen in the indie Vincent-N-Roxxy with Emile Hirsch and Zoe Kravitz. This is his first deal since bursting off the screen in Compton, in which he portrayed the key member of the N.W.A. who died of complications from AIDS in 1995.

Love-the-Coopers-082615-Dragonlord.jpg

CBS Films and Lionsgate have released the first trailer for the Christmas family comedy Love the Coopers. Directed by I Am Sam and Corrina, Corrina helmer Jesse Nelson, this is a fairly standard family holiday film in which the heads of the family decide they want everyone together under one roof for Christmas. Of course, this being Christmas and all, everything goes to hell pretty quickly, and assembling the family is easier said than done.

This looks to be a bit of a cross between The Family Stone and New Year

First Official Image of Michael Fassbender in ASSASSIN'S CREED

Meet Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch in Assassin’s Creed. Before hardcore Assassin's Creed gamers start scratching their heads about how exactly Callum Lynch fits into the game world, Yahoo reveals that Fassbender’s character was created specifically for the film. (The movie isn’t retelling any of the existing games, but rather introducing new characters into the same world.)

Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.

Also starring Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises), Michael Kenneth Williams (12 Years a Slave), and Ariane Labed (Before Midnight), cameras start rolling for Assassin's Creed on Monday. Filming is set to happen in Malta, London, and Spain. Assassin’s Creed opens in theaters Dec. 21, 2016.

PROMETHEUS 2 Reportedly Delaying Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN

Prometheus-Ridley-Scott-Dragonlord-1.jpg

While Twentieth Century Fox is still hot on Neill Blomkamp's Alien project, Bloody Disgusting's sources say that they’re being forced to hold off until after Ridley Scott gets into production on his long-gestured Prometheus sequel. This means a lengthy development process for Blomkamp's Alien, and a potential release in 2018.

"Alien 5 is still very much in the works, as Fox remains hot on the idea," the source says. "Blomkamp continues to work on the script (only an outline existed previously) and refine the tale he is telling. Ridley Scott is still producing, but has insisted on Prometheus 2 being made first."

Blomkamp will continue to slowly prep Alien 5 while Scott goes off and makes Prometheus 2 early next year. But there’s an even larger roadblock that’s being avoided by the feet dragging. The insider says the “delay” will allow Blomkamp more time to develop his project and afford him the ability to work around any scheduling issues that may arise in reference to Sigourney Weaver’s involvement with James Cameron’s Avatar sequels.

If all goes well, Blomkamp will likely shoot Alien 5 sometime in 2017, ahead of a release the following year. So that gives fans a one-two punch of Scott’s Prometheus 2 in 2017 and Blomkamp’s own Alien film in 2018. Things are subject to change, of course, but this is the current plan, so says the source.

Additionally, while Michael Biehn is adamant that the new entry into the franchise will ignore Alien3 and Alien: Resurrection, the source thinks that might not be the case, stating that they’re, “…not sure if Biehn’s assertions about it ignoring 3 & 4 are accurate. It’s basically far too early to tell on that front right now.”

New Alien Movie Delayed Due to Ridley Scott Insisting Prometheus 2 Be Made First

After seeing Chappie I lost faith in Bomb-kamp. I don't want either of these movies to be made. Especially if Blomkamp is writing the script to Alien 5! Hasn't anyone told him he's a shit writer yet?

Leave Aliens alone!

Ridley Scott Confirms PROMETHEUS Sequel Is His Next Movie

Prometheus-Fassbender-Ridley-Scott-Dragonlord.jpg

After hearing some murmurs earlier this month about Prometheus 2 ramping up to begin production in early 2016, Ridley Scott has confirmed that this is indeed planned to be his next film. During an interview with Empire about Scott's latest film, The Martian, Matt Damon commented that "Ridley was done with the movie about two weeks after we shot!" Scott added, "I was already on to my next movie! I was starting to look for locations for my next movie, which is Prometheus 2."

A potential wrench was thrown into the plans for Prometheus 2 when filmmaker Neill Blomkamp

New Instagram Teaser for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

Star-Wars-The-First-Order-2-Dragonlord.jpg

Lucasfilm has released a new teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, via Instagram. The teaser features new footage of Finn (John Boyega) wielding a lightsaber, Rey (Daisy Ridley) with BB-8, and the armies of the First Order.

So why exactly are Star Wars fans getting so excited? That last bit features villain Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) igniting his interesting hilted three-blade lightsaber followed by Finn (John Boyega) igniting a saber in return. is what's so huge for fans, of course, as it's brand-new, and the first time on camera that we've seen Finn with a lightsaber. It's not the first time, however, that this has been hinted at. But the biggest thing for the Star Wars faithful isn't just a lightsaber, it's the first on-screen canon shot that all-but-confirms it's Anakin's lightsaber in Finn's hands.

See, that blue blade is your first hint. But other Jedi have wielded a blue bladed weapon, of course. The real indication is in the grip. Those black bars giving it a ridged look are unique to just one lightsaber, the one that belonged to Anakin Skywalker as a young Jedi, and was eventually passed on to his son Luke. Wielding Anakin/Luke's lightsaber is a heavy and important indicator that someone is extremely central to the story, and that someone being of African descent is a major step for the franchise.

What I'd like to see in Marvel Civil War..

civil-war-stamford-explosion.jpg

For those of you who aren't comic-book aficionados (nerds), this is what happened during a "routine" take-down of a super-villain by the New Warriors (a teen superhero group). The conflagration above engulfs an Elementary School in Stamford Ct.

I know that last bit may seem familiar, but oftentimes life does imitate art. This is the catalyst for the S.H.R.A. (SuperHero Registration Act) which is in-turn the spark behind the Civil War. I'd like to see something that jarring to trigger the said events.
