What-We-Do-In-The-Shadows-081715-Dragonlord.jpg

Fans of the vampire comedy What We Do in the Shadows may be happy to learn there could be more story to tell. Written and directed by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, the comedy debuted at Sundance last year to positive notices and is essentially a mockumentary about a group of centuries-old vampires living their lives in Wellington, New Zealand. Now, in an interview with Stuff.co.nz, Clement confirms that a follow-up revolving around Rhys Darby

2nd Trailer for Ridley Scott's THE MARTIAN Starring Matt Damon

2nqek9k.jpg

20th Century Fox has released a new trailer for Ridley Scott‘s hugely anticipated The Martian. The movie stars Matt Damon as an astronaut stranded on the Red Planet who is forced to fashion a makeshift return vessel to get back to Earth. Fox delivered a solid first trailer for the film back in June, but this new one rocks a stronger build and offers up a much clearer sense of the tone of the film, better supporting the humor and quips.

The film will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and then hit theaters nationwide on October 2nd. The movie also stars Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Donald Glover.

Synopsis: During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. Based on a best-selling novel.

First Official Tailer for the Sundance Horror Hit THE WITCH

The-Witch-081915-Dragonlord.jpg

A24 Films has released the first trailer for writer/director Robert Eggers’ intensely unnerving feature debut The Witch. Aptly described as a New England folktale, the film takes place in the year 1630, a generation before the Salem witch trials, and revolves around a small family that has been excommunicated from its plantation due to father William’s outspoken objections to what he sees as the community’s lax religious principles. But when he moves his family to a remote cabin near the foreboding woods, an unspeakable horror creeps in, leaving their lives forever changed.

This trailer is not only an excellent signifier of what kind of experience you’re in for with The Witch, it’s also just a damn good teaser trailer; it entices rather than reveals. The Witch is a masterfully executed horror film that relies on dread and atmosphere for effect over jump scares or deep mythology—and it’s all the better for it.

The Witch was a sensation at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. Eggers is a serious talent to watch (he took home Best Director at Sundance), and it’s no surprise he’s already attached to helm a new take on the horror classic Nosferatu. The Witch stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Katie Dickie, Harvey Scrimshaw, Lucas Dawson, and Ellie Grainger and opens in theaters sometime in 2016.

JURASSIC WORLD Screenwriter Heads to KONG: SKULL ISLAND

Derek-Connolly-Kong-Skull-Island-Dragonlord.jpg

Derek Connolly is doing a little island hopping. Monster Island, that is. Connolly, who is director Colin Trevorrow’s frequent writing partner, was a co-screenwriter on this summer’s Jurassic World, helping reboot the dinosaurs-run-amok-on-an-island franchise.

Now the scribe has been brought on to work on Kong: Skull Island, Legendary and Universal’s monster movie that is steeped in the lore of King Kong. The scribe is doing some late minute work as the movie is deep in the casting stages and heading for a late October start in Hawaii. The pic will also shoot in Iceland and Vietnam. Max Borenstein (Godzilla), John Gatins (Flight) and Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) are among those that previously worked on the script.

Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and Corey Hawkins are starring in the project, which is being directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and sees a team of explorers venture into the mysterious, creature-laden isle that is also the home of the king of the apes. The movie is scheduled for a March 10, 2017 release.

In addition to Jurassic, Connolly also wrote Trevorrow’s 2012 Sundance breakout, Safety Not Guaranteed. Other credits include Paramount’s Monster Trucks, directed by Chris Wedge and awaiting release, and has Intelligent Life set up at DreamWorks. The latter, a sc-fi love story, reunites him with Trevorrow.

George Lucas Reveals Jar Jar Binks Was Based on Goofy

George-Lucas-Jar-Jar-Binks-Dragonlord.jpg

Director and Star Wars creator George Lucas told fans at the D23 Expo in Anaheim on Friday that Disney's Goofy influenced the making of the love-him-or-hate-him Gungan character Jar Jar Binks from the 1999 prequel Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

"I can't even begin to tell you how much of an influence Disney has had on me," Lucas said. "I will say one secret that nobody knows; not many people realize that Goofy was the inspiration for Jar Jar Binks." After the audience laughed, Lucas added, "I know that you will look at him differently now. It's pretty obvious, actually, but, um, I love Goofy and I love Jar Jar."

"I tried to remember back what it was like when I was young and what I got from Disney," Lucas said, "and I am very happy to be here with two of my daughters. One of them's older and sitting here and trying to get into the movie business just like me, and the other one is two years old and we're re-going through the park. To watch it through her eyes is an amazing experience."

Dwayne Johnson to Star in JUNGLE CRUISE Movie for Disney

Dwayne-Johnson-081915d-Dragonlord.jpg

Dwayne Johnson is teaming up with Disney to translate a theme park ride to the big screen. Johnson is attached to star in Jungle Cruise, based on the classic ride, while John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, the duo behind the Will Smith heist movie Focus, have been tapped to write the script. The duo, who have directed movies such as Focus and Stupid Crazy Love, are not attached to helm at this stage.

Johnson’s involvement once again puts the Jungle boat back into the water after a multiyear dry-dock phase. Disney has been trying to mount a movie based on the popular ride since at least 2004, during the years when the success of The Pirates of the Caribbean set sail many ride-based projects. The studio last tried to develop the project as a starring vehicle for Tom Hanks and Tim Allen in early 2011 with writer Roger S.H. Schulman.

Clive Owen to Star in Luc Besson's Sci-Fi Film VALERIAN

Clive-Owen-Valerian-Dragonlord.jpg

Luc Besson has set Clive Owen to star alongside Dane DeHaan (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Cara Delavingne (Paper Towns) in Valerian, the $180 million budget sci-fi film that is based on a comic series he loved as a child. It is an adaptation of the iconic French sci-fi graphic novel series from writers Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières that first appeared in 1967. Owen will play Commander Arün Filitt.

The film will begin shooting early next year. Besson gathered a handful of reporters in the back room of a bar during Comic-Con to show us the storyboards for the film, which is actually called Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets. It is a big bet for his indie company EuropaCorp, and the visuals conveyed a futuristic world with these amazing creatures and vistas that looked like Star Wars meets Blade Runner meets Besson’s The Fifth Element.

There are only five major human characters and dozens of crazy-looking creatures, and we hear he’s already clearing space in his Paris studio because he’s going to need all the soundstages. Besson didn’t reveal the film’s plot, only the world he is building, and it looked exquisite. He told the reporters that he thought he had the script ready several years ago, but tore it up after watching Avatar and realizing he had a lot more work to do. Now, he is ready.

Boyega will play another employee at The Circle. He and Watson's character develop a relationship after she starts working at the company. Hanks is producing via his company Playtone along with Gary Goetzman. Ponsoldt is also producing with Anthony Bregman, Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald.

Boyega nabbed the hot role of Stormtrooper Finn in Disney and Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which hits theaters in December. The actor made his film debut in 2011's Attack the Block.

Christian Bale to Star in Michael Mann's Untitled Ferrari Movie

Christian-Bale-110314-Dragonlord.jpg

Michael Mann’s long-in-the-works Ferrari project may be getting back on the track. Christian Bale is attached to star in the drama, which is being packaged in the hopes of being shopped to buyers and financiers during the Toronto Film Festival and other markets, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The project adapts the 1991 book Enzo Ferrari: The Man, The Cars, The Race, The Machine written by Brock Yates and details the rise of auto mogul. While filmmakers love racing projects, the question is can they drive audiences into theaters. Ron Howard’s Rush premiered at Toronto to much acclaim but stalled at the box office.

Similarly, Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt were circling Go Like Hell, which told of the rivalry between Ferrari and Carroll Shelby. The Fox project was to have been directed by Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski but spun out due to budgetary issues.

Adding nails on the speedway is the fact that Mann is coming off of the most expensive bombs of the year, Legendary's Blackhat. Bale worked with Mann in 2009’s Public Enemies, the period gangster movie in which Bale played the FBI agent tracking John Dillinger.

Warner Bros. Descends into Hell with DANTE'S INFERNO Movie

Warner-Bros-Dantes-Inferno-Dragonlord.jpg

In a preemptive deal, Warner Bros has purchased the original feature pitch Dante’s Inferno from screenwriter Dwain Worrell. Gianni Nunnari’s Hollywood Gang and Akiva Goldsman’s Weed Road will produce it together. The project has the studio excited by its scale and franchise potential. It’s based on the epic love story that is at the core of Dante’s Inferno. Dante descends through the nine circles of hell to save the woman he loves.

Worrell was the writer who, while living in China, got Amazon Studios to bite on The Wall, his first big script written while he was living in China. It’s a $5 million-budget thriller about a deadly cat-and-mouse contest waged by an American sharpshooter and the Iraqi sniper who has him pinned behind a small chunk of concrete.

Worrell was working in China as a translator when he wrote The Wall; his Internet opportunities and ability to get the script seen were limited, but he got it to the Amazon guys, they bought it, and he soon had agency reps and that script climbed to the top of the 2014 Black List. Warner Bros then acquired Mind Corp from director Jose Padilha, which Worrell is also scripting.

I'm cool with this.

I really want to see both films, but I'm willing to wait to see an awesome Aliens direct sequel, as long as they do it right.

Scott, and I hate to say this, is an aging tallent. If he never made a sequel, it would be a huge 'How awesome would it have been?' in his memory.

I'm not saying he's dying. But at his age, and the workload that his schedule provides, a severe health problem can develop very quickly.

considering how his brother went out, i doubt he cares. he probably just wants to stay as busy as possible before he kicks the bucket.
