Jamie-Foxx-Kevin-Hart-Dragonlord.jpg

Kevin Hart and Jamie Foxx are in talks to star in Screen Gems' Black Phantom, THR has confirmed. The project, about a double-crossed mob hitman who enlists the help of the so-called Black Phantom, the same hitman who had been sent to kill him, would reteam Hart with his Ride Along director Tim Story, who is in talks to helm. Dave Lease and Megan Hinds wrote the script. Ride Along producer Will Packer is poised to produce alongside Will Gluck.

The genre of the pic is unclear, but with Hart onboard there

Scott Derrickson in the Running to Direct DOCTOR STRANGE

Scott-Derrickson-Doctor-Strange-031114-Dragonlord.jpg

A few weeks ago, it was reported that Mark Andrews (Pixar’s Brave), Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies), Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair), and newcomer Dean Israelite (Welcome to Yesterday) were all in the mix to direct Marvel’s Doctor Strange. It’s a diverse bunch of directors, and now one more name is joining their ranks: Scott Derrickson. Derrickson mostly has a horror background. His previous credits include Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Hellraiser: Inferno, and he recently directed the supernatural thriller Deliver Us from Evil. However, he does have a big-budget feature to his name having directed the 2008 remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still.

In addition to reporting on Derrickson being in the mix for the directing gig, THR writer Borys Kit also tweeted, “Being told Mark Andrews (Brave), Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies) still on the shortlist.” The addition of Derrickson means that the only constant for Doctor Strange from a directing perspective is that they’ll be reasonably affordable. Kung Fu Panda scribes Jon Aibel and Glenn Berger are being eyed to write the screenplay, but the studio reportedly wants a writer/director team that can work together to hammer out the story.

Now that 20th Century Fox and director Josh Trank have their Fantastic Four in place, they've turned their attention to the movie's villain — Dr. Doom. Four rising stars remain on the short-list, all of whom have accents and are 30-34 years old. According to The Wrap, the studio has narrowed down their search to four: Sam Riley (Control), Eddie Redmayne (Les Mis

A Fletch reboot? Seriously Hollywood? That short on ideas?

Christ. That's not bottom of the barrel. That's the rat droppings under the barrel.

Ed Helms to Star as Badass Soldier in Comedy EPIC FAIL

Ed-Helms-600x200-Dragonlord.jpg

Lionsgate has picked up Epic Fail, a comedy pitch that has Ed Helms attached to star. Helms developed the idea with Nicky Weinstock, a former production exec-turned-producer. Mike Arnold and Chris Poole will now write the script. Arnold and Poole have written a number of projects in development, including the Black List script The Grackle. Best known for his comedic roles in The Hangover and NBC's The Office, Helms recently appeared in We're the Millers and will soon be seen in Joe Carnahan's Stretch.

According to Lionsgate, Epic Fail centers on an elite but highly unorthodox special forces team [that] takes their dysfunction and excessive firepower on a desperate mission to save America, led by the only soldier more badass and more mustachioed than a Navy SEAL, The Walrus.

Early Reactions to Darren Aronofsky's NOAH Are Positive

Noah-Russell-Crowe-031114-Dragonlord.jpg

Director Darren Aronofsky’s long-awaited Black Swan follow-up Noah had its world premiere last night in Mexico, which means the first reactions to the finished film are in. Unsurprisingly, most pointed out that a lot of the film has been hid from the marketing—namely the more fantastical elements. The overall reaction was mainly positive, but many pointed out that it is destined to be a quite polarizing film. That’s not exactly a shock given that most of Aronofsky’s films elicit strong reactions, and with regards to Noah, the film appears to have a heavy philosophical bent while visually resembling a fantasy pic.

Devin Faraci
NOAH: imagine the serious philosophical and faith explorations of LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST with a LORD OF THE RINGS sheen. THE FOUNTAIN really is the template for NOAH, at least when it comes to bombast mixed w/ deeper concerns. If you hated THE FOUNTAIN... I think NOAH is going to be one I end up defending a bunch. It's odd and it's flawed but it's ambitious and thoughtful in ways I loved. What I wonder is how audiences will take the way Noah himself gets dark. The film doesn't shy from the fact he leaves LOTS of people to die.

Alex Billington
Noah - Aronofsky's take on biblical story is solid, with some amazing scenes + a focus on character above all. Loved most but not all of it. @iamclintmansell's score for Noah may be my favorite Mansell score (will need album to confirm). It's next iteration of The Fountain score. My favorite part of #Noah is The Watchers, these badass rock monsters - which they've barely shown at all even though they're a huge part.

Nathan Adams
#Noah is a complicated film, but strong overall. The studio seems lost, but they at least have a good product to figure out how to sell. Really only the first half of #Noah has been advertised, minus some heavy fantasy elements. The second half is character-based thriller. Opinions will differ, but nobody needs worry Aronofsky has stepped out of his wheelhouse to do studio fare.

We Got This Covered
Despite being a bit uneven and too long, Darren Aronofsky's Noah is still a powerful experience with some stunning scenes #Noah #NoahMovie

Peter Sciretta
.@DarrenAronofsky's Noah is a much different film than whats being advertised. Biblical epic meets fantasy, with a philosophical core. Noah has a pro-science pro-faith tone, but for the most part, I don't know why religious viewers would have issues with the adaptation. Noah is a divisive film (not from a religious perspective), akin to The Fountain, will have its fans & haters. I'm in the former for both.

Early Reactions to NOAH Offer Praise but Predict Polarizing Response from Audiences

Chris-McKay-Lego-Movie-Sequel-Dragonlord.jpg

Warner Bros has set Chris McKay to direct its sequel to The LEGO Movie, the film that opened last month and has so far turned in a worldwide gross of $361 million. They are still working all this out, including whether this is a straight sequel or a film that broadens the LEGO empire by focusing on the character Ninjago.

At the same time, McKay is also negotiating a first-look producer deal at the studio. Dan Lin & Roy Lee are also producing. Who’s McKay? The Chicago native cur his teeth mixing animation with irreverence on the small screen, winning an Emmy for his work on Cartoon Network’s Robot Chicken, on which he has directed over 40 episodes, and the film Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode 3. Rooney-Mara-Image-600x200-Dragonlord.jpg

Rooney Mara is in negotiations to play Tiger Lily in Warner Bros.' Peter Pan origin tale Pan. Joe Wright, who directed Atonement and Pride & Prejudice, is directing from a script by Jason Fuchs. Hugh Jackman is playing Blackbeard and Garrett Hedlund will take on the role of Hook in the film, which will tell the tale of a young orphan boy from London who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he faces off against Blackbeard, the story's main villain. The young Pan has yet to be cast, but will be a boy between 10 and 12 years old.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Lead Role Down to 5 Contenders

Ed-Speelers-John-Boyega-Jesse-Plemons-Dragonlord.jpg

With Adam Driver on board to play the villain in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII, the shortlist of actors for the male lead role has apparently been narrowed down to rather eclectic mix of actors. Variety reports that John Boyega (Attack the Block), Ed Speleers (Eragon), Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad), and theater actors Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher are at the top of the short list for the lead. Everyone under the sun appears to have been involved in the auditioning process for the coveted role, so just to make it this far is a pretty significant achievement. The only pseudo-official confirmation of in-person auditions so far came from Abrams himself concerning his talks with Plemons.

Some character details have emerged, however, even if they’re still a bit vague. The part of the lead role is expected by be a Jedi apprentice. Michael Arndt’s original draft would have focused on Han Solo and Princess Leia’s offspring, but it looks like Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan’s rewrite moves those characters into a supporting role instead. A proposed reason for this, and the film’s delayed start, is that the creative team wants to deviate from the Caucasian leads of the past, and that Abrams wants a diversified cast.

Right! Its a classic. Why cant Hollywood remake movies that sucked or suffered from bad special effects?

They'd be fools not to cash in on the brand recognition cachet of THE EXPLORERS. Why, it's not a generic name at all!

CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 to Challenge BATMAN/SUPERMAN Head On

Captain-America-Batman-Superman-Dragonlord.jpg

The mystery has been solved -- the untitled Marvel Studios tentpole that Warner Bros.' Batman-Superman movie will go up against on May 6, 2016, is Captain America 3, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. That's the plan, anyway, creating the biggest superhero box office showdown in history (Marvel Studios and parent company Disney staked out the date first). Shooting schedules and post-production could always impact the current blueprint, however. Also, Marvel and Disney have a second untitled movie set to open that summer on July 8, so there is wiggle room.

Marvel planted their flag first and claimed the May 6, 2016 release date in June 2013. Marvel films have all but owned the first weekend of summer for the past decade to enormous success, so all of Hollywood was surprised when Warner Bros. announced in January 2014 that it would open Batman-Superman movie on May 6, 2016 as well. Batman-Superman stars Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill once again as Superman. It was originally supposed to hit theaters in summer 2015, but its release was pushed back nearly a year. There's no doubt but that Warners is hoping to replicate the blockbuster returns Marvel has enjoyed with its multi-hero Avengers universe.

This week, when promoting the upcoming sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige threw down the gauntlet, saying he had no plans to move off of the May 6 date. He still wouldn't reveal the identity of the film; however, insiders confirm it will indeed be Captain America 3. The world premiere of Winter Soldier is Thursday in Hollywood. Veteran box office observers doubt that the two films will ultimately open opposite each other.
