There has been quote a bit of hype train derailment going on lately, as fighters outside the UFC, and fighters in the early stages of their UFC career both experience the roller coaster of hype regarding a prospect's potential. This further proves there is only one place to truly test yourself - it isn't the regional circuit, Bellator, or Rizin - it is the Major League of MMA, UFC.

Some prospects appear to be panning out, like Petr Yan, but for the most part, we get big flameouts. Is the scouting just off, or is the UFC competition really that much above and beyond the rest?

    Thomas 'Thominhas" Almeida
    Pre-UFC record: 16-0
    UFC record: 5-3
Recent record : 1-3 in last 4 fights

    Renan Barao
    Pre-UFC record: 25-1
    UFC record: 9-7
Recent record : 2-7 in last 9 fights

    Renato "Moicano" Carneiro
    Pre-UFC record: 8-0
    UFC record: 5-3
Recent record : 2-3 in last 5 fights

    Jimmie "El Terror" Rivera
    Pre-UFC record: 16-1
    UFC record: 6-3
Recent record : 1-3 in last 4 fights

    Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson
    Pre-UFC record: 5-0
    UFC record: 9-4
Recent record : 1-3-1 in last 4 fights

    Uriah Hall
    Pre-UFC record: 7-2
    UFC record: 8-7
Recent record : 3-1 in last 4 fights (maybe on rebound?)
note: doesn't really fit in with the rest, as he has never made it out of "good TUF fighter but not PPV level"

    Will Brooks
    Pre-UFC record: 17-1
    UFC record: 1-3
Recent record : Out of UFC

    Marcin Held
    Pre-UFC record: 22-4
    UFC record: 1-3
Recent record : Out of UFC

I could put 10 Japanese stars in here, but I don't have all day.

How about former UFC champs going to other orgs and losing?

    What does that say?

    I don't think I get your point.

The first examples from your list:

    Thomas 'Thominhas" Almeida
    Pre-UFC record: 16-0
    UFC record: 5-3
Recent record : 1-3 in last 4 fights

    Renan Barao
    Pre-UFC record: 25-1
    UFC record: 9-7
Recent record : 2-7 in last 9 fights

    Renato "Moicano" Carneiro
    Pre-UFC record: 8-0
    UFC record: 5-3
Recent record : 2-3 in last 5 fights

    Jimmie "El Terror" Rivera
    Pre-UFC record: 16-1
    UFC record: 6-3
Recent record : 1-3 in last 4 fights

That means these fighters started their UFC career with records of:

    Almeida 4-0
    Barao 7-0 and champ + 1 defense
    Moicano 3-0
    Rivera 5-0

Seems to me they did just fine in the UFC, so I don't see your point.

Brooks sort of fits what you're saying but he was 30 when he finally made it to the UFC.

Held definitely supports what you said, but as the only one of your list of 7 that fits, I don't think you're on to anything here.

If anything, I'd say you demonstrated the opposite.

Wasnt Ronan barao like, the most dominant champion and like nr2 on the p4p list(p4p is stupid but still).
A legit world class fighter no one could touch him.

Thomas almeria is a good one, at one point he was the man, after Brad picket fought almeida Dana white gad a talk with Brad and came with all that crap 'oh this kid is the future and you almost stopped the show' or some crap like that.
After the loss to cost I dont think I ever heard about almeida again.

    Erick Silva
    Pre-UFC record: 13-1 (1)
    UFC record: 7-8
Recent record : 1-2 in last 3 fights

Barao isn't a good example. He was legit finishing people and defended his belt multiple times.
