So I was at the supermarket half hour ago and there was a commotion. A woman was shouting and a dozen people were looking in her direction. I look and see a dude wailing at her. In a few seconds people jump in and push the dude off and as security comes he runs away.

The woman however keeps shouting at him. As I look now the dude is at the till trying to buy something (wtf?). I show security where he is but while they go looking for him he sneaks in through another aisle and attacks the woman again - and this time everyone just stands there watching.

At this point I think fuck it, I run at the dude, throw a right hand, close the distance, clinch and knee, jump on his back, sink the choke in and drag him to the floor. In a few seconds he's totally asleep. I get the mount and hold him, expecting him to go crazy the moment he wakes up. Instead he lays there looking in empty space as if shell shocked. Eventually security comes and take him away. I walk away pretty much unnoticed apart from one guy who asks me if I'm ok.

It was a simple job but really fun. Of course I had fantasised of this happening since I started MMA and this is the first time I had the chance to use my skills in real life. Not that my help was really needed, however the fact that I intervened meant the situation was solved quickly and effectively.

The intersting thing was also that unlike in organised fights I wasn't nervous at all. I was totally focussed, went in, did my job and got out. Of course I also enjoyed putting on a show, lol - I wonder what everyone thought when they saw me wrapped around his neck. Hell, as I may be opening a gym soon this made me realise I should always have flyers with me. You never know when you come across a piece of good pr!

Is it try that in holland if someone stands behind you in a queue and you dont acknowledge them they can push infront of you?

what if the guy tries to sue you because YOU attacked HIM?

Didn't cross my mind. He would first have to find me tho.

*EDIT* that unintentionally sounded aggressive. don't get me wrong, i totally agree with you deciding to help but you should have restrain him not "throw a right hand, close the distance, clinch and knee" as that can be deemed as assault even though he was attacking someone else...

You are totally right. I went in to beat him up. It was only when I found myself half way to his back that I decided to choke him out instead. That was a mistake but I didn't yhink about it. I still don't know how laws work in this country, but nobody asked me to hang around to answer anything so I just walked away quietly.

its netherlands, not america, haha

Dude you put a guy to sleep? That's not a good idea man.

Some people have heart problems or other illnesses that may cause serious injuries or death if the blood flow is blocked to the brain, even if its temporary.

People who are high on drugs or other chemicals may be suspect to death as well.

If the guy is aggressively attacking people and acting weird ie. going back to shopping after attacking someone, there may be some indication he might be not all there or on drugs.

You are a very lucky person he is alive and hopefully not pressing charges.

The fact that you didn't stick around until the police came you can be charged for assault. If you sticked around at least you could of said it was a citizen's arrest.

so? the law is quite similar everywhere. and i'm not even from america, i'm actually quite close to the netherlands...

true but from my experiance in living in russia, and here, in the US. the americans are alot more Sue happy, when in russia fights happen and no problem people go to live their lives.

Probably, but the supermarket's security personnel removed me from the guy and simply ignored me. I wasn't going to follow them to ask if they needed anything from me.

And as far as the risks go, again I didn't think of it. I let it go at first but as nobody seemed to be able to deal with it I jumped in to end it and ended it quick. Had the guy grabbed a knife from the cutlery section it would have been MUCH worse. I stopped it before it came to that.

EDIT: But now that I can think about it with a cool head I realise you are probably right. I could have just grappled him and immobilized him with no problem. I didn't need all that "firepower". But of course I wasn't going to have all this discussion in my head when it happened.

So true...in which part of the world is it okay to sit back and watch something out of fear of being sued...some places have become civilized to the point of cowardice

he said it was the netherlands, not the U.S.A :icon_chee

Why is this in the grappling forum? There is no punching or kneeing in the grappling forum.

Actually our country (America) has very good laws concerning defense of another.

If this person was attacking someone else, particularly a woman, the law would allow this person to attack and subdue them in the defense of another person.

I finished him bu rnc. Had I finished him by ko I'd have posted it in the standup forum. Then again this only proves that sherdog needs an mma subforum too.

I say good job brother. Most people people would have just stood there and watched the woman be attacked, as you can probably tell from some of the comments so far.
