Seeing the Paul Felder creates a gofundme to fight in brazil got me thinking about MMA managers.

What is their major role for a fighter now that the reebok deal is in place?

Doesn't it seem silly to be making 10k/10k and paying a manager 20%?

Could the fighter really not have negotiated the standard 10k/10k contract himself?

Is a manager really able to get a fighter 20%+ more money in a contract than if the fighter just negotiated himself?

This shits not rocket science. I think anyone making below 100k a year is wasting money if they have a manager.....unless I'm missing some key component of a managers job.

If the manager is any good they should get them outside of the cage sponsors. And have them do some local things in there area and arrange seminars and appearances on podcasts for them etc.Set up training opportunities at other gyms etc.If there not doing them things then no they sholdnt have one

Would they have got to the ufc without the manager is the question

Seems like more fighters get into the ufc from their fellow fighters putting in the word. IE, Faber telling dana about a new fighter from TAM.

I mean do fighters not in the UFC have managers? That would seem infinitely more retarded than having a manager when making shit money in the UFC.

Fighters can still get sponsors and a manager can possibly help them do that, with their connections. Lets be honest though, fighters who train 5 hours a day, have a lot of time on their hands to learn how to manage themselves.

I could be wrong but I know a few local gyms around here who, when one of their guy starts fighting pro, basically insist on representing the fighter and taking a cut. You either accept or find yourself without a gym. They're as crooked as the promoters.

It makes sense they have all the tools for the guy to train , boxing coaches , wrestling coaches JJ etc , thats OK but just some dick talking on your behalf IDK
