The CEO of Sport Ireland, John Treacy has issued a daunting warning to all athletes participating in any kind of Mixed Martial Arts events in Ireland in the future. Treacy revealed that he was about head into serious meetings with officials from the Department of Sport this week to review all the regulatory guidelines for combat sports.

They should probably ban drinking beer as well, as that kills way more people and that's pretty much what the irish are famous for being good at.

And they're overrated at that. Brits are better drinkers. The Irish are historically the best at not being the best.

It just looks like the sport will get a regulatory body like Sweden now. So it's actually better all round. Sad that it took the death of that fighter to get to this point though.

This. Ireland will have a commission to sanction fights from now on.

The U.S. will gladly trade all our fortune 500 companies to Ireland in exchange for their top MMA prospects.

You're chatting shit, we have consistently over achieved in many areas, given our relatively low population. Also your sweeping generalisation that Brits are better drinkers is pathetic on several levels...most of all it being somethin to be proud of in the first place

On topic, this is a temporary blip mma in Ireland will be fine. Most talk is about, and rightly so, the lack of any regulatory body in Ireland

What's the issue here? Sounds like MMA is an unregulated jungle in Ireland full of people who don't know what they're doing plus shysters.

Nobody is saying MMA will be banned. For now.

Here is the future of MMA in Ireland:

That's funny I knew him years ago John Treacy very active in long distance running orgs at the time.

Your confusing hooliganism with drinking there my friend, especially when abroad but only in groups of course, when your alone your not nearly as "confident".

Leave it to the most liberal country in the EU to panic-ban an entire sport because a random guy died at a very poorly-run fight event.

Did you read the article or just steal the title? Also, you should put quotes around your paragraph since someone else said it.

Thanks for the update Kenny.

El Tapo Bless!"

I'm amused that you think the only country in Europe that still bans abortions for rape and incest, and a country where the only two parties that have ever held power are both conservative parties, is the most liberal country in Europe.

Brits are better drinkers than us? Gtfo!

If they actually ban MMA, it'll be ridiculous.

How many Irish Boxers have died in or after competition in the past 120 years?
